Yes, but I found it was more about the white balance than the bulb you use.

What kind of photo flood bulb do you mean? The incandescent ones that look like ordinary bulbs? Or the Halogen ones like the PAR bulbs, conic shaped?

Or are these the very short life (3 hours) 250w super hot/bright ones?

I prefer diffused LEDs. They run cool so you can get them in close without heating everything up

Adjusting the WB is a crucial component. I use 2 GE compact florescent bulbs, 20 watt, 75 watt equivalent, daylight 6500k, 1200 lumens.

Ring flash. Block the bottom of the ring. Works for me, but I'll admit that it wasn't an easy place to get to

I use 18 Watt, 6500 K compact fluorescent bulbs sold at Costco in a 6 pack. Sold under the name "Feit Electric".

As others have said, the white balance is key.

I use their halogen floods. They're heavy so if you use a standard swing lamp, you'll have to play with the springs to keep the bulbs from weighing down the whole setup. The bulbs are also really hot.
