Opinions- 1938-P Lincoln cent

I think this was in a bunch of cents that my father-in-law gave me. Like I mentioned in the Half Dime opinion thread, I focus on Morgan dollars.

Is this worth anything with the wood grain surface? I see green on the top obverse. Did the value just drop to 0.01 again? Looks like the 8 is doubled.

Without the spots I'd have kept it as a neat example of woodgrain.

With the spots I'd think it's value is just another wheat cent.

The spots (green corrosion) eat into the coin, and kill it value-wise, but it's an interesting example of impurities in the planchet causing the woodgrain effect. I've never cared for it, actually! But it does occasionally happen on Wheats and Indians.

The slight doubling on the 8 appears to be machine doubling, caused at the time of striking -- good eyes! But no special value there.

Love the wood grain toning. But the spots are a distraction. Still, it's worth more than 1 cent.

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!
