Finder of SS Central America sought by Marshals
I must have missed this story.
Strange, I thought the amount of gold found was higher and well known but it says:
"How much of the Central America's gold was recovered is unclear, though Thompson sold bars and coins to a California mint for $52 million."
Is that a $50 gold piece he's holding in the photo?

Sure appears to be a $50 gold slug.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

That would make them worth at least 1760 x 2.5 or $4400 each at a minimum bullion based amount.
