1970-D Jefferson....Ugh...Almost 6 Full Steps

Just started going through my '70-'80 mint sets. This one is so close to being a major score. I hate finding a coin like this, but at the same time glad I did.

Thoughts?

That is one awesome 1970-D! I have a similar very close 1968-D, 1969-D and 1969-S, but have never come close like this on a 1970-D. Nice score! When you are ready, I'd like to place it with my other close, but no cigars!

    My 1969-S.....oh, oh so close!

i have a 1939 S merc ms 66 just about like this. perfect band with a small vertical hit. they are full and obvious bands, but just that one little cross-hit.

it is kept at the sdb when i feel like a good weep, i'll go peek at it lol

I think there would be a number of interested parties for this coin if it ever goes on the auction block. Heck, I'll start it off with a Franklin.........nice coin! Be sure to send it off to our hosts for at least a MS65 grade.

    Leo,

That was the first thing I did when I purchaed it! MS64 grade, as it has a few significant hit on the Obverse. If there was ever a designation for tough date coins that are soooo close to FS, this one deserses that designation. Maybe have an AFS designation, Almost full Steps? This would give us Jefferson collectors one more thing to argue, oh I mean talk about.
