Newp: 1861-O 50c for the 1861 set

I have officially added this 1861-O 50c to my 1861 Registry set:

It was purchased from Numismatic Americana and is an excellent match for my 1861 50c:

I am having a very difficult time finding an 1861 10c in MS grade, and that is completely unexpected.

Now you'll have to dig out your back issue of The Gobrecht Journal and identify the die pair to see if you coin was minted by the US, the State of Louisiana or the Confederacy!
Check out the Southern Gold Society
Oh, one more thing, we don't meet until Nov. 18th, Sunday Night Football 8:20pm
At Heinz Field.....can't wait, now we(Ravens) deal with Philly on Sunday.
Good luck and great coins.
Of note: Did anyone notice the "natural" blend of numismatics and the NFL in this post??

<< <i>Is there any reason for the year 1861? >>
I have always been drawn to the year because of my interest in the Civil War. Of the Civil War dates, it is the only one that includes southern mints (New Orleans for the non-gold mint set).

Do you collect any 1861 gold for your set?
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
RYK,
Mighty nice addition - and I know you're working on a
top grade set of this date as I notice it immediately above
my Great Grandfather's Birth year set: John J. O'Gorman.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !

Date sets are tons of fun. Civil war years are not as easy as one might think...are you doing the whole mm date combo?

I have a few gold coins in my expanded 1861 Showcase, but I will probably not take it much further.
In the past, I had three of the four southern gold 1861 coins:
I sold them several years ago.
From a purely selfish standpoint, I hope you get the whole set in matching images at some point.
(Also, if memory serves, you're a Hurricane backer. As a K-State alum, sorry about last week).

It would be a fun set to have in True Views. I still "need" two significant upgrades before I am finished. I would like an 1861 IHC in 5, and a higher grade dime.

My first year at UM was in '83 when Kosar led the 'Canes out of nowhere to our first of four national championship games. I attended two of them as I was at UM for college and med school through 1991. Add our 2001 championship, I would say that I have had a lifetime of enjoyment watching Miami, and five more national championships than K-state.

Well, I have to say uncle to that. FWIW, Miami was always my second favorite team any time they played that Cornhusking school to the North.

That was quite the trio. Nice Seated Halves.

I also went to the UM, preceding you by 5 years, and my family lived close to the university.
RYK, do you have any interest in getting a WB-102 50C coin? Those have a distinctive die crack from Liberty's nose to the rim, and are considered to have been struck by the Confederacy.
