Deliciously original F15. I think it has F15+ obverse details, but enough weakness in the eagle's feathers and enough small ticks to keep it at F15. Love it!

$20 was the cheapest I ever paid for a problem free, orig Fine 1852-0. I don't think I ever owned one after that. First and last.

Wow, can you find me one for that?

<< <i>$20 was a terribly high cost for an 1852-O quarter.
Um, in the year 1854. >>
Fortunately, I found mine around 1975. $20 was probably a very high cost for those in the 1960's too.
In checking my March 6th 1974 Coin World Trends, the 1852-0 in Fine had a listed value of $45. The key was finding one. The $45 (or $20) part was easy. Silver at that time was $5.75/oz and gold $150/oz. But I must admit I got mine by paying 30% over trends for an 1852-P quarter. The seller wasn't particularly interested in the O mint mark on the reverse. ........I succumbed to greed however and flipped it almost immediately for $200 to Kam Ahwash. Price guides being off by 5X made finding key date seated coins a fun task. It's taken almost 40 years to get CDN to only be off by 2X to 3X on many key dates.
I don't have Briggs in front of me but recall there was an issue with the collar that made these wear prematurely. Some have strong strikes and other have weak strkes. Mine graded XF40 and would appear to be the same die pair as the MS63 coin and your 25. The 35 is from another die based on mintmark placement.
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.
The only high grade ones I've seen personally were always the flat head variety. First one I saw was in NYCity in the 70's or 80's... choice, full luster unc....with a very flat head. More than likely it's one of the 2 unc coins graded today. I'm surprised the OP's coin came back a VF25. Even more suprised that 55-0 above is an XF40.
