Neat - I like items like these. I agree that the FE is not original in there. More than likely it would of been a new cent. Here is something similiar I picked up years ago
Most of the Put-A-Penny encasements had 1940's or 1950's dated Lincolns in them as issued. They were distributed widely as advertising promotions, since they were mostly generic in nature.
