Crazy price for a cleaned Indian cent variety

This high grade but cleaned 1894 Snow-1 Indian cent sold for $861. The coin is a very early die state but (IMNSHO) was harshly cleaned or dipped. The pinkish-orange color in several of the pictures is a huge warning sign to me, but it wasn't enough to scare off the bidders, three of whom came in well over $500 for this coin.

higher than i'd expected, but i have seen a couple of these recently bring some strong numbers
varieties and errors seem to be trending right now, especially good and/or popular/well known varieties
of course throw into the fray, the usual variables, day of the week, lunar phase, solar flares etc ><
