Got beat out in the HA auctions tonight

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
by a cut-bid vs my advance (internet) bid.
I bid my max and I didn't want to go to the next highest (add $100+the 17.5% premium to get the next bid increment).

Could be something I regret, but I stick to what I bid.

Now, it will be interesting to see which dealer ends up putting the coin in the NEWPS listing and for how much image

I did notice that, from what I saw in the live bids tonight, EAC was going strong.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I got beat out on all copper at both Goldberg and HA auctions this week - and that's on strong bids on copper with minor problems,
not low ball bids on the PQ stuff.

I was lucky enough to pick up a few things in both goldbergs and heritage with bids that exceeded
any price guide, but still happy with the results - BUT the budget is blown for the rest of the year.

I got smoked on the only thing I bid on. I had what I thought was a strong bid - over $1500 higher than the previous, similar one sold for a couple years ago. It went for over $2000 more than my highest bid. Going into the live portion I still led, and my bid was $500 below my max. Then the heavy artillery came out and blew me into the next county!
  • Picked up one piece last night. Those bids for R5/6 ugly problem coins were insane. I don't care how rare if it's too ugly to look at.

Since I do not use auctions to stock inventory, I generally fix on one or two coins in an auction that help my set. The only limit I have in is "Moon Money" bids that are 1.5X or greater than the last recent sale. I do not mind pushing up the prices on good material. In fact, you have to or you will wind up empty handed. I always try and keep in mind that when I pay more for a coin than "expected" that other people saw what I did and when the day comes that I sell it, that coin will do well again. Since it is for my collection I never look back on price, or think about a profit at resale. When I take that off the table it is all about not letting it go while not being ridiculous either.

I wonder if that was a theme of sorts... there were 4 Brazilian 960 reis up last night, all of them rarities in the series, and all of them problem coins - cleaned, ex-jewelry, broken edge & cleaned, dinged edge. Prices ended up right where I thought they would be.

I bought one lot in the auction, by a cut bid made in advance on the internet. Didn't want to have to stay awake until 3 am or whenever it sold.

Wonder if it was the same coin as the OP was bidding on?

  • How do you make a cut bid in advance?

I'm on vacation [ tough when its also a retirement image ]

and I lost all track of what auction is up - maybe I should

check my lots, huh ? I tracked a bunch thinking I would be

bidding on a few odds and ends... guess not.

Heritage's "LiveProxy" bidding allows this, but only on their increments, or half-increments (which is essentially a cut bid).

  • I didn't know that. Thanks
