    They were a bit slow yesterday. BTW, seemed like EVERYTHING was fetching big prices. I don't collect ancients but they were going steeply. I noticed that the Anguilla "1968" 200 dollars gold proof 64, actually struck 1974 went for 2300 plus commission fees (2650!)....Wow!


    I know this is Z's topic and OP, but I have to say that I just had a funny feeling watching the ancients as I was supposed to be working and that is that the House may have been, uh, stimulating results and prices...OK, that is a feeling, and NO PROOF!

    seems very very strong prices - just noticed French for example.. most are triple and over estimate

    Talers like that shouldn't exist. It would appear that there is no ceiling on talers like that. Zohar - you have to let other people win on occasion to keep it interesting. image

    Got two pieces - first is termed a Crocione - struck in 1792-1800 during the reign of Franz II, the last Holy Roman Emperor. This type is identical to kronenthalers struck elsewhere in the Habsburg dominions even though this specimen was struck in Milan (mintmark "M"). The design bears the Burgundian cross on the reverse, so perhaps that is why this coin is filed under Austrian Netherlands. The duchy of Milan was Spanish until 1714, when it passed to the Austrians, who lost it to Revolutionary France in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, it returned to Habsburg rule until the unification of Italy in 1859-60.

    1796 Italian States - Milan. Crocione, 1794-M. Dav-1390; KM-C59.1. Francis II. Laureate head right. Reverse: St. Andrew's cross with three crowns in angles. Lovely original mint luster. NGC graded MS-62. Some adjustment marks on edges yet these really circulated heavy where anything in AU-MS tends to be sought after.

    Great Britain. Medal, 1658. Eimer-203. Bronze. 38 mm. by Dassier for the series of Kings and Queens circa 1731. Oliver Cromwell. Bust left. Reverse: Memorial. NGC graded MS-63 Brown. Dont know anything about this other than it was pretty cost effective. Early 18th century medal for under $100??

    This is one of the better shooting designs. 65 is a very solid grade for the type.

    Won this fab example of a rather common date in a very scarce state of preservation.
    I've never seen a better one in 30 years - its graded MS64 and none higher.
    In hand looks 'n feels MS65
