If you were the winner of this coin and want to flip it let me know.

Stacks did not execute my bid so you paid less than I would have. If you want to make a profit I am still interested in the coin.

Maybe one day I can post the lot I did win, Stacks could not find the coin to deliver to me at ANA and as I write this I still don't have .

I will share an article on the coin once it is in hand. There is a very interesting reason why I purchased and 1845 proof dime.

I just auctioned off a few coins at Heritage. I would be upset if 2 bidders did not run up the price for me because one couldn't bid. That's what selling at auctions are all about.

Here is my "Stacks lost it" item that was not put in the large package of stuff I purchased in an auction a couple of years ago:

A couple of calls and I had it the next day, they "found" it and express mailed it to me.

Stacks did not execute my bid so you paid less than I would have.

Several years ago, the same happened to me at Scotsman for two coins. They failed to execute my bids. They have since improved their processes, but I was very disappointed and stayed away from their auctions for a couple of years.

I wouldn't call this a buy offer. It is a story of an event that happened and the poster is expressing their frustration.

Good grief. What do you want, a trace of the IP packets going into the Stack's server?

Or maybe a video of the Pope delivering SeatedDime's bids to 123 W. 57th?

SeatedDime is a serious buyer of rare coins w/a substantial amount of skin in the game.

If he says Stack's lost his bids, I tend to believe him.

That's actually happened to me. Not a major auction house, and not someone still in business. I wanted to bid on a lot and he wouldn't let me, because one of his whale customers had a high mail bid on it and he did not want to see the guy run up on that particular lot.

I bought from SB one time and it was a terrible experience. I hate their images, as they are kinda uninterpretable or difficult, at best. I stick with HA from now on

I actually had something similar happen to me at Stack's, but in my favor. I was bidding on my phone, because I was at work. I had the bid page up, and before I realized it, the auction was 3min past when it was supposed to end. Well I sent my bid in anyway, kicking myself for not paying attention. Later, I checked my email, and it was in my winning lots. I found out later that a friend was the under-bidder, and when he called to complain about his bid getting hit after the supposed close time, they just gave him the runaround and told him it was his clock that was wrong.

I doubt it was because they liked me more, since it was the first time I bid in one of their auctions.

When you are bidding on a really rare coin that you just have to own, I recommend you don't leave anything to chance. Either show up at the auction yourself, or get auction representation.

Many other things could have gone wrong, resulting in a bid not being recognized, that are not the fault of the auction house. Such as, the internet goes down, the power goes off, your computer crashes, you forget or type in your password wrong, or your server is too slow.

Another alternative was to have the auction company call you at the time the lot was being sold, and bidding by telephone. But even that can go wrong for various reasons.

I had two such incidents happen.

1. I was watching an auction (stayed up till 3 am due to the auction was on the OTHER coast) and minutes before my lot my computer froze, so I rebooted still NOTHING. Must have been a loose connection b/c after checking ports and wires was finally able to reconnect. By the time I got back on I LITERALLY had no time to place a proxy bid as my lot had JUST come up and I was forced into the VERY risky business of live bidding in real time but it went OK. I won

2. Another time I lost my cable connection and had to call cable company and they weren't able to come until the next DAY and the auction was that night!! I could not use My PC or laptop. I ended up using a computer at the PUBLIC library. Not sure if it was a security setting or internet speed or what but as soon as I placed my bid the WHOLE computer crashed . Only AFTER I logged back on did I find that I was the winner and high bidder.

I was REAL LUCKY in BOTH INSTANCES but I've always been real lucky when it comes to coins.

I was the high bidder on an 1885 CN 3 cent piece business strike in an ANACS UNC details holder, and the bid was verified as the winning bid, for some reason my winning bid did not win.

I went back an looked,

There were three other coins in the sale, a problem coin in problem holder a vg-10 and the NGC au-50. it went cheap at 28k, but if you saw the coin, you know why. (dont beilve it would holder at PC)

This is standard practice at every major auction firm with which I've done business. Same goes for coins that don't meet reserve.

Act quickly. especially on the latter.

Stacks was going to have the "head people" get back to me, after all it was a 6 figure coin.

I have been totally ignored.

I had several higher value coins I was going for in the sale and aside from a 1845 dime that they could not find for me to pick up, I could not get bids off. I still have yet to get the 45 proof delivered.

It is sad to say this is not the Stacks of years passed. As with everything, things are different. The next time I will have someone rep me.

More important, Stacks may not be the same venue to sell a collection. If this seller lost at least $10,000 on just this coin then he did not get top dollar.

Not that failing to execute bids should be excused, but it probably happens at least once in every sale. The first time it happened to me was at Bowers and Ruddy in 1975.
I had a $1200 bid on a choice unc 1868 seated quarter and the lot sold for $800. I thought I had ripped it....until I called 3 days later and found out it was already picked up
by a dealer and was gone. I think they told me this happens in less than 1/1000 entered bids (or was it 10,000?). While it's unfortunate the consignor didn't get that extra
10%, the same thing would have happened had you been on vacation the past month and just passed on the sale. I've even had bids with agents attending the sale that failed
to execute bids either because they stayed at dinner too long or just forgot. There's no sure thing even if you attend in person. But I feel your pain with this unexecuted bid.
Maybe the coin wasn't for you and they did you a favor.

If 6 figures you must be referring to the battle born 62, if I recall a floor bidder won that coin. Or an agent floor bidder.

I bid one increment from the floor, but it went over my limit so I stopped.

Been there, done that. One agent told me that everything was selling for too much, so they left the auction. Didn't use that agent again.
