Tour of the US Mint

It was amazing and learned so much when I visited the West Point Mint.

This was a highlight of my numismatic life.

My notes did not make sense. Notes cleaned up.

Is 5 per minute really 60 per hour?

    LOL. I multiplied 12 times 5 instead of 60 times 5.

That was totally wrong. But it should be up to 300 per hour not 60 per hour.

I will double check the 5 times per minute as I also remember that 1 coin takes up to 20 seconds each which contradicts the 5 coins per minute. It might be 3 minutes per minute.

I spent a couple of weeks at West Point about 11 years ago. I was putting in an automatic labeling machine back in the days when the Mint shipped directly from their production facilities. West Point is remarkable in many ways. If you work what is called "behind the line" meaning a very restricted area, everyone gets both searched, and weighed going in and out. Security is amazingly tight, as it should be in a place that has substantial amounts of gold, both in coin and bar form.

They used to have a sign, Home of the MS70 back when it was REALLY hard to get a 70 grade.

The folks there take great pride in their work. The quality control area is amazing as well. Given the nature of gold, the security is light years stronger than at the other facilities, i.e. Philadelphia, Denver..etc.

I am so glad Orevlle had a good time there, as it is an amazing place.
