A Post About Something Teletrade Just Did That Really Impressed Me & Was Great For The Hobby!!

wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 17,128 ✭✭✭✭✭
I recently prepared a very large consignment for Teletrade (hundreds of coins) and within that consignment was a number of "70" grade Silver Eagles (graded by a top service). The following week when I was consigning additional coins, Gil (I have said before this guy is the superstar of the entire Teletrade operation) handed back to us a small handful of these 70 grade silver eagles with a note that the coins had spots on them and would not be acceptable for auction by Teletrade. Indeed, some of the coins had very minor spotting issues (unfortunately typical for the silver eagle series).

I could not have been happier! Let's hope every auction company out there begins to show a stronger interest in making sure the buying public gets decent coins for the grade especially where problems on coins are OBVIOUS for the grade. I am not aware of any other auction company right now that would have done what Teletrade just did, but if they are out there, I would also love to hear from you.

GREAT JOB TELETRADE!

Mitch, they need all the help they can get from what I have been hearing. Thumbs up for trying to move into the right direction. You are correct any other auction company would have listed those spotty eagles. I have heard many complaints mostly about their shipping issues as of lately.

Hopefully they are on the right track for the future!

I don't use TT as much as you, Mitch, or some others, but I have used them a bit (usually buying), and I have had a few ship a little slower than normal, but it wasn't terribly tardy.
When dealing with them (emails/calls), I have found them to be top notch as well. As you mentioned, Gil is great to work with. I've had a few emails with him and his customer service was tops!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

TT didn't want the hassel of having these coins being returned by unhappy customers demanding refunds which makes good business sense. Agree that they did the right thing for all concerned.

PerryHall ... Yes, Teletrade has one of the most generous return policies around as far as I know.

If they want to pass on the no question problem coins that collectors would be upset about buying after the fact ... as I said, that is great for the hobby!

So do these 70's get taken care of by the grading service?

I really like TT. I follow all of their auctions, have bought a few hundred coins over the years, and am very satisfied with their customer service.

Gil has made some questionable calls IMHO. It has certainly limited my consigning to TT.

James: I didn't say Gil was a Saint ... I just said that in my opinion he was the star employee of Teletrade and quite possibly in the top (10) nicest guys to deal with of any coin company out there I have ever personally dealt with. If you think he "did you wrong" ... call him tomorrow and revisit your issue. Tell him he was just voted in the "top 10 nicest guys in the world of coins" by at least one long time forum member and ask him to reconsider your issues. Wouldn't hurt ... right?

    Mitch

I don't want to air this here. I have already had a discussion with him.

I'm just pointing out that his customer service is not up to par in my books. He knows my opinion and he had an opportunity to change it but decided not to. I've been a customer of TT back to the video days in 1986, but his call has cost them most of my business. Ian, with great collections has picked up the slack.

I don't have many decent B&M dealers near me (I have checked out all of the within a ~60 mile radius), and can't make it to many shows. The majority of my purchases are online.

It's great to know that Teletrade weeds out spotty 70 eagles. I wish more dealers/etc. did. I started collecting silver eagles, and abandoned hopes of completing the set after purchasing more than one 70 with spots. I was able to return those, but the hassle turned me off.

I have no problems with Teletrade and have bought many coins from them over the years. I just wish their shipping times were better!
