1918 Illinois Centenial new attempt at shooting

morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,436 ✭✭✭✭✭
Purchased from illini420 last summer. I like it raw, I'm guessing 63.
This piece is a pain to shoot for some reason.
Bet if I had a DSLR and a decent lens it would be much easier.
The best I could generate, with my $100 P&S

EDIT: Fell free to post you Linclon comems. Love to see some higher graded pieces.

<<With a good idea of the toning you are going to see in hand.>>

I used the vibrance feature on PB, just a bit to bring out the color.
Looks pretty much the same inhand, real close.

I really like it. This image shows the high relief of the obverse with great detail of the reverse.

With a good idea of the toning you are going to see in hand.

A fine job on the image.

Looks really nice. A bit brighter would be my taste.

It's not really that bright n flashy. Both side are light brown and darkest around the edges.

I know, and I find myself always taking a bit darker pictures of coins. Then I go back and say, why is this so dark and kick it up.

You sure take some great pictures on that everyman's rig you run! Keep it up.

Made me laugh image $111 total cost for the cam, tripod ($5 yardsale) and 2 GE CFLs ($6)
The ArcSoft Photostudio 5.5 software came with the scanner. The computer was yanked
from the dump all it needed was a new HD. Installed a 100GB drive installed XP Pro
which I already had, updated it and was given an old flatscreen 17" monitor. The tower is a Dell
with a 2.0 GHZ P4 processor, DVDcombo drive, SoundBlaster sound card and a ATI vid card, with 512 ram.
Amazing what people will throw away.

Time to start metal detecting and life will be good! A lot of coins were discarded in the past, albeit not on purpose!

Nice coin and a pretty good pic of it image I'm sure it's better than the picture I had of the coin.

Doesn't seem to make too much sense to pay for more camera equipment when you can get shots that nice with what you already have!

Thanks Mike, try my best. I will have a DSLR soon, can't wait.
Abe looks just as good as the day I received it. Now in a Capital holder, keeping it raw.

I like the Lincoln commemorative, I keep my eyes open for one when I'm at shows...just haven't found the right one yet. Your pictures are quite good too, very impressive for a P&S!

Thanks Robec, coming from one who is a well respected coin photographer, that feels good.
Like I've always maintained, I try my best to generate the best possible image using what I have.

Sent one in with a batch of coins from Bajjerfan the other day. My nephew took photos, but we just can't get coins to look like Broadstruck got them to look when he had the camera. Magic touch or lousy coins ? Who knows ? image

I like your images very much & don't think they need any touch ups.

I also agree, Broadstruck does a great job on every coin he's imaged.
He also admits that he's lacking experience in photographing Proofs.
Another thought on his skills, he's a die hard fan of many other photographers.
It was he who introduced me to Messydesk.
