What are the rules for using TrueView photos for personal use?
1. Can the coin owner have a print made on their own? 2. Can the coin owner use the photo for Ebay, or other sale purposes? 3. Do any of the above rights transfer to new owners upon sale of the underlying coin?

I would say yes to all three. I would chalk that up to fair use. Just so long as no one starts putting TrueViews in their own material that they intend to sell, or claim the photo is theirs and sell to Corbis or Getty.
wingedliberty, I got in touch with our IT head and he said reverting the "large" image size back to 1101 x 556 (give or rake a pixel) would be no problem.

Dad told me that back in 2005, the PCGS company started the Trueview idia to help collectors market thier coins. The price was $5 per coin and $5 for a re-holder or just an extra $5 at time of grading. Hard to believe it is nearly a 400% increase in just 6 1/2 years

Hi Phil, I sent an order in that was mailed back around January 6th. You mentioned that you hold alternate images for a while and I wonder if you still had alternate images for this 48D rainbow franklin? 48D Rainbow Franklin
If so, could you tell me if any images picked up the rich rainbow color from 9 O'clock to 2 Oclock or was this color washed out in all the photos? THank you, CC

Tell that to the guy that takes your family portrait and you want to run down to Walmart and have some prints made, and see what he says. I'm actually surprised that PCGS allows you to take and use the images as you see fit.

It's all up to Ron Guth to make the choice. Hopefully he'll come along and give a more detailed answer.
Has it caused you to reconsider the price point on the TrueView service Don?
Now that Phil has Eddy to help him we can process more TrueViews. This opens up a lot of possibilities. In the past we simply couldn't handle any more demand.

Phil, this brings up a question I have had for a long time. In the case where you have multiple photos, why do you select the one you do? Is it pure personal preference? Or is there some sort of objective criteria that you use? For example, with the case of the Franklin example why did you initially select the original photo over the 2nd optional/additional one?
WingedLiberty, I know you didn't ask me but for the record, the image before the brightness got knocked down 20% more accurately portrays the color of this coin in hand.
Interestingly though, I would say that the first image most accurately portrays the sparkler-like pop and luster of this coin though.

It's pretty much by best guess of what I think the customer may want. Unfortunately I don't have a whole lot of time to contemplate the individual photos. Thanks for all the comments!
My question is if a coin is currently TrueView'ed and you send it for regrade I believe you can request the photo be transfered to the new cert number with no additional fee charged, can you confirm if this is correct?
Thanks Phil they look great, although I believe the two 1961 Proofs are a bit brighter and have more yellow in the coins then the image reflects. However, all in all they are fantastic!!!

The idea is to make this more of a regular column for the ezine, in the form of a Q&A or possibly some other discussion related to the artistic side of the hobby we all love.
I just received my very first TrueViews, 8 sent in on the Quarterly $10 special. What I learned, is that the white coins do not need to be TrueView, but the toned ones look great with TrueView. If PCGS decided to keep the $10 price for TrueView, I would use it again --- but only for toned coins.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
I just got my MPL's back from Phil. They turned out really great and accurately show what my coins look like. Combining the new "prong" holders with the TrueView quarterly special was great for me and my enjoyment of my collection. They even posted my MPL's on Coin Facts. I love PCGS. Thanks Phil. Steve
I sent off a couple of submissions today and asked for the CC Quarterly special for the trueviews....hopefully, they not it meets the "Must be postmarked by 3-31-12" I spent the last 2 weeks going back and forth with what I wanted to send and ended up culling out a handful plus as I didn't think they would be worth grading as well.....but I did want to get them photo'ed. Oh well...maybe off to one of our other forum members soon.
I sent off a package to PCGS postmarked today as well... requested that 3 of the coins be Trueviewed under the quarterly special... first quarterly special I'm using for a couple of years now and it's not even a free grading!!!!

I sent in an 8 coin grading order and requested that 3 of the coins be TrueViewed under the Quarterly Special. I saw nothing in the CC Quarter offer that required all coins on the order be Trueviewed... I know if you request variety attribution you don't have to pay for variety attribution on all coins in the order. Not sure why customer service would treat this any differently. We'll see what happens...
Please be sure to report back here, as to what happens, with your partial submission request for TrueView. I certainly would not, in the future, then request TrueView for white coins.

This coin was recently imaged in a trueview for my order. I did't remember this coin having tone.
I receive the coin back today and the coin is virturly white. What could have happened to make a white coin look like this in an image?

I just now noticed that the "Max" size TrueView image is HuuuuuuuGE!
The big Images were once in the 5 to 6 meg range, they are now double that and then some!!!!!
What has changed??? Just higher resolution?....BTW, Im not complaining!!
