Want to see the pictures you did not know PCGS took of your coins???

Then go to your sets and look ! I got about a dozen. And if you try to look up the Cert #, you will get an error. So I am sure its some computer glitch that will be corrected soon so hurry up and look!

<< <i>I like it when they take pics of my coins and put them in coinfacts. The I can use the pic in my sets.
I like that too, but I wish they would email you or let you know somehow when they so a photo. Also a shame those great photos are not tied to the cert numbers when you do a cert lookup. I have had coins graded and never knew they had coinfacts photo until I was selling and looking up recent sales in Coinfacts.

I did not know the below were in there before, but I just looked and found them and some others). Due to the toning, I am glad that PCGS did image them as they did much better than I could.
Since I don't submit a ton, I took a look at some of the submissions and seem to have noticed that, for me at least, the only ones that pop up like this are from this year (not back in 2011 or before).
PS....too bad the PREVIEW function is still broken

Here ya go, Mozin....I don't want you to have egg on your face, or foot in your mouth, too long.....
Check out this thread.....and then scroll down to PCGSPhoto (Phil) and the reply in there.....
I'll even quote it for you here to try to cheer up your obviously sour disposition as everything you have posted lately has been argumentative, demeaning, or just plain ignorant (like your post here) and wrong....

TrueView images and CoinFacts images are essentially the same. The system displays the PCGS background for people who have purchased TrueView pics, and the system subtracts it for coins that appear on CoinFacts. SecurePlus pics also have white backgrounds (but no drop shadow) and are lower res, but I've been helping out trying to improve their quality, and they've come a long way in that regard.
So, that would seem to refute whatever belief you have by saying that the coinfacts images are subpar to the trueview.
Now, if you had said the backgrounds make them look worse...I could understand. Or if you said the secureplus pictures (since they are lower resolution), again, I could understand. However, neither is what you said.
Rather than let your ignorance make others look down on the coinfacts photos, I chose to post the truth above, as it came "from the horse's mouth" (sorry Phil

Thanks! I just went and checked the cert number of one that I had in mind that was on CoinFacts but didn't work w/ cert verification and I now see the photo there. They must have put it up on CoinFacts and then later added it to the cert verification. Cool. Here's a link to the cert verification of the coin if anyone wanted to see, it's a great photo and equal to a trueview photo when blown up, just doesn't have the background of a trueview...

EDIT: Ohh, just figured it out. Nevermind!
A number of my coins are in Coinfacts including these three I didn't realize were included.

Those are scanned images. Not photographed via a camera. Those ALWAYS come with secure grading service. Those are the "fingerprints" of the coins for the secure grading. Hope you get it now. :-)
edit to add: You can have TrueView images in conjunction with your secure plus "fingerprint" images. The TrueView images are done with a camera whereas the fingerprint images are done with what I believe to be a scanner-like device.

Please note that this thread is about the coinfacts/trueview pics and, as stated, they are the same photo....different background

<< <i>Well then, the only coins of mine in my Registry sets that show the side-by-side pictures added on with the pictures I myself uploaded, indicating they came from PCGS, are for my SecurePlus coins I have in my sets. I could not find any PCGS pictures in my sets that appear to be from CoinFacts. Perhaps only CoinFacts subscribers are getting in on the free pictures of quality. >>
Have you submitted any non-generic looking coins this calendar year?
Not being smart about it, but going by what Phil mentioned and by what I have noticed. Combining the items, it appears to me that toned coins, nice looking coins for the grade, and other non-modern coins, are making the grade for the extra photos. Looking back on my submissions, none of the 2011, or prior, coin submissions have this. But, some of my early 2012 do (March I think it was).

The 1860 is a CoinFacts Photo while the 1869 is a Secure Plus Scan.
Not all coins get a Secure Plus scan however PCGS does scan random coins on occasion without having the submitter request secure plus.
ALL coins submitted for Secure Plus grading get a scan such as your 1869. These scans are not intended to be true photo's but are more of a system reference scan. Hence, the visual quality is not very pleasing.

I personally do not like to have the SecurePlus photos showing up in my registry, as they ruin the continuity and nicity of the set which I have tried to accomplish with good pictures (well, the best I can do anyway) that are consistent. These blurry photos from SecurePlus cannot even be deleted when you access them from My Inventory within your set registry.

<< <i>We may be splitting hairs but ... isn't the entire point of Secure Plus photos to create a visual grade reference so they can identify the "fingerprint" of the coin at future crossroads?

Simple.
The Secure Plus scan is intended for PCGS and its database, not the consumer.
TrueView is intended for the consumer.

I agree. I don't want the ugly scans showing up in my inventory and registry sets. Same for the Coinfacts images (though I am a subscriber and love the tool). I am not impressed by the quality.
I can live with most of the Trueviews but would like the option of deleting any or all of them from my sets too. Poor photos should not be forced on us.
