After burning my hand a few times using halogens I'm wondering how this twin bank of 2-36w florescent per side will work for coins

<< <i>114 is overpriced instead of way overpriced. >>
Seriously you can't even buy used Kaiser light arms for $114.

LindeDad, I missed you comment till just now...
The thought of wearing oven mitts while photographing coins is hilarious!
It is just not something I would buy or tell anyone to buy.
I just ordered this from Adorama today:
MK Digital Direct Dual Mini Stereo Lights 350-2
After some testing in the office I think I finally figured out how to beat (or at least tie) glare when trying to capture toning colors that demand direct light. Unfortunately, it requires that I get the light very close to the slab which just isn't doable with the lighting system I'm currently using.
<< <i>I haven't tried those, but I've never been thrilled with fluorescents. Though, FWIW, I never had a problem with the lighting being strong enough when I went through my Ott-lite phase. And those were just 24-watt.

I've heard about those they are supposed to be good for shooting proof and making all the color pop.
<< <i>Just like many coins, the high price doesn't mean they are good.

I have a spare RS-1 stand that I can package these with and sell if they shouldn't work...
I'm not sweating a $115 to try a new lighting system.

I know, but I too have found it prudent to wear long sleeves when taking pictures.

I've been using a pair of Kaiser RB-1 4397's for the last year.
They are 650w halogens with a built in cooling fan.
Great to use in the winter... Way to hot for summertime usage.

are your hands a lil tanner too?
should ask if you use a flip-down welders mask too...

No but I've lost a few pounds when shooting a box of 20.
<< <i>hope you use 650 watt approved slabs for shooting... >>
They are on arms really far away and produce about as much heat with the fan as the 300w RB-300.
Even a pair of 75w PAR30's will melt a slab if you walk away to take a phone call or answer the front door.
i remember a thread that someone posted of a lincoln(s) they took images of with some new el-cheapo lamps from ikea or the like, flexible goose necks. the bulbs were quite small
someone may remember, they looked like the eye things coming out of the top of those alien ships in war of the worlds.
the images were probably in the top 3 i've seen to-date.
i know quality is most often the way to go, but above that is knowing how to use what you have. a feat i still have yet to achieve
i hope someone remembers that thread cuz i'd like to bring it back because of the large amount of imaging threads we've had the past 12 months
.

I am curious to see a slab coin.
<< <i>What do you think? Is that slabbed or raw.

Interesting lighting system but huge as each ABS reflector measuring about 20" Deep x 9" Wide x 4 1/2" High....
So my copy stand looks like it could take flight at any moment.
Test shot 2 prior to cropping...

Lance is right adjust the contrast slightly and I bet it will be right on.
<< <i>I think your going to like them as you work with copper a lot.

Thanks... I'll play around with the lights and images a bit more when I return from ANA.
Truly life like!

Factory sealed $99.99 + $15.00 shipping.
Seller opted to go priority mail instead of UPS ground so the actual shipping cost was $41.55.
