Guess the grade - new Walker purchase - photo retake

ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,797 ✭✭✭✭✭
Note: I was embarrassed about that last set of photos, so I pulled out the Plast-X. There are a couple of small marks on this coin, exaggerated by the lighting. The rest is die polish and scratches that didn't come out. I'll reveal the grade later today.

This one is well struck for an S mint, though the 46-S does seem to have better strikes than the 41-S or 42-S Walkers. I've still seen my share of flat strikes for the 46-S though. Guess the grade just for fun (no gennies like my last one!)

I'm going to guess it is a PQ 64.....Nice luster, and I think those are die polish lines and not hairlines in the right obv field, but the nick on the bust, chatter on the sun, and scratch in the left obv between L and I, and some chatter and marks on the rev likely limit this to a 64

What's going on with goD and truST? Looks doubled to me.

On the grade, I'd say 64.

<<What's going on with goD and truST? Looks doubled to me.>>

I'm curious as well. Is it from the lighting? A reflection of sorts?
    I'll wager 64.

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I see doubling. True doubling too, not the machine/shelf doubling type. I don't know of a 46-S DDO, but I'm not a walker expert either.

I like PQ 64, it makes me want to start a set of 64's, something I have thought of doing, it would leave me a few dollars for decoys, but I'm supposed to be working on my boxes of twenty...image

I redid the photos after a buff up with Plast-X. I'll reveal the grade this evening.

Ok, looks like everyone was a bit short, it's a PCGS MS-66 in an older green holder. The coin is a blazer in hand, plus the strike was a plus for me too. Of course any marks look much worse in large photos, at first glance the two main marks are easy to miss. I'd like to find a 40-S, 41-S, 42-S or 44-S like this!
  • Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,716 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well, I have seen the 41S with comparable strikes to this, the 42S is harder, and the 44S harder still.
A 40S with comparable detail to this would indeed be a rarity!

Keep in mind, these are big pictures and that is creating a false need to be cautious- it is a terrific coin
