I kid. I agree with FadeToBlack, how does that business model not work? Suppose too many full page ads and newspaper commercials, and the supply is drying up per the recent thread on the topic?
<< <i>"BBB has received disputes from across the country which claim that after consumers sold their items to THR, the company's checks stopped clearing the bank. The company has responded to these BBB disputes by claiming that replacement checks have been issued.AS of 07/20/2012, the company has ceased responding to these complaints.
According to a statement by THR in a news release, the total number of checks affected is over 4,000."
Wow, how do you buy stuff for 1/4 of its actual value and still go bankrupt unless ownership is skimming profits? That's just nonsensical. >>
Well, let's say they set up in 120 cities a week and they advertise in the newspaper for each city for the week they are going to be there. Figuring it as conservatively as I can given the size of their print ads that would still be over half a million dollars PER WEEK that they'd be spending in newspaper advertising alone. Sounds like they have quite a few expenses...hundreds of employees, travel expenses, other forms of advertising, etc.
In all honesty I can't think of any instances of when a patronage decision was made in consideration of a company's BBB affiliation or rating status.

I know that those parasites were in the Mattoon-Charleston area not that long ago. Wanted to put something in the local paper but due to the possibility of a lawsuit, I couldn't. My coin club has had discussions about these hotel buyers and I consider them a threat to honest coin dealers such as myself. Now, the coin dealer in Joliet, IL has a sign on his shop's window regarding the hotel buyers, pawn shops, and the cash-for-gold crooks. It speaks for itself.

Wow, only 4000 bad checks and the BBB gives them a failing grade. Wonder how many people that decide to take their coins and bullion to these buyers actually take the time to investigate what the BBB says about these folks.
<< <i>Additional Information: Consumers contacting the BBB express sellers remorse. Consumers state that after selling their items to the company, they felt the offer they accepted was inadequate. >>
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the tactics this company uses; however, if these people took their PM to a pawn broker, they would be offered about the same. In addition, these people do not have a gun being held to their heads forcing them to accept the offers from these companies. They can walk away just as easily as they walked in.

It wasn't all that long ago that they had a B rating.
Just from personal experience it seems like more and more people are checking with the BBB before doing business with coin dealers and precious metals buyers. Because I have to keep track of our advertising budget I ask every new person who comes in to our office how they heard about us or found us. At least a few people a week tell me that they did a search for coin dealers and then checked us out with the BBB.

the BBB is full of BS if they are to be taken seriously
