Moon Money 1992 LMC

A couple of weeks ago a 1992-D Close AM sold for $18,000.00

This coin is a Philadelphia coin.At this moment I think there are only 4 known.

The coin is PCGS graded at MS67RED.

I bet it sells for moon money.

Looks like its currently $805 ( now bid at $810 ) over what I'd be willing to pay.

The Denver coins have about 15 known I believe.
The Philadelphia coins have 4 known.
Sold for 18 large with the juice.
The Denver coin was MS64

Of course that was on a well publicized HA.com auction which is a better venue for such a sale. The coin for using ebay will cost him about 25-33% I think

It makes sense from a fee perspective and the amount of $2-10k+ coins is climbing rapidly

I started hunting for the P&D 1992 Close AM back about 6 years ago.
I figured I had a good chance because they were not very widely known or searched for.
I have spent countless hours searching hundreds and hundreds of bricks and $50.00 bags and OBW rolls.
I have found dozens of DDO's and RPM's and other varieties....but these 2 1992 coins are heartbreakers.
There was a girl who bought the book about searching pocket change and in less than a week,she found a 1992-D Close AM. Good Grief.
As far as I know,none have been found in rolls....they are all from circulation.
Thats why MS67 seems unreal.

first thing that came to mind for me as well. i looked but didn't see "made in china" anywhere on the coin thankfully.

it appears to be an extremely EDS possibly part of a trial run or maybe someone thought they could slip a few out. who knows, all speculation.

i very rarely see that brown haze like peace/morgans have from that sawdust on many other series, lincolns are exceptionally rare to have this look.

you can see it: IGWT - 2 - TED - memorial by FG and T in Cent. near where those half concentric gouges are. you can see one very good in the "FG" image in the listing.

There is the possibility that the coin was saved early because of the rotated die (a pretty rare error for zinc cents) and when it was saved,the fact that its a CAM (Close AM) was not even known by the person who saved it.
The CAM may have been discovered much later.
The Close AM transitional error was not even discovered untill 2006.

"It was speculated these were used to test the "new" dies, although I don't know why they would test the new design after such a minor change. I think it's far more likely they were slapped on at the very end of the run of '92's by employees that weren't educated on the difference and saw use for maybe a couple hours before they switched the obverse dies to '93's. If that theory were true, there's a decent chance of their being some '93 WAM's out there."

I also look for 93 WAM's but so far none have ever been found.

The 1988 P&D with reverse of 1989:AKA RDV-006 AKA FS-901
Also a transitional coin.Hard to get POP numbers but the Denver coin is pretty rare.
Some people also think that at the end of 1988 they used the following year reverse dies by accident.
The 1988 Denver FS-901 has an approx. POP of less than 50 coins.

it may not be pmd.

they very well could be production marks. first i would have seen to date, but i have a lot of firsts left in numismatics to be sure

I've seen those types of marks before, looks like the copper plating is cracked from being stretched too far or being plated on too thick?

Must be from the die rotation stressing the plating at that area too much. Rotated dies will cause different die stresses on the planchet.

On a Morgan dollar those would be called planchet striations. One definition is the planchet was polished for a proof strike....

Probably hammer at 15K and than sold within a year for $30K.

I think you have it backwards. Probably sell for $30k now, and for less in a year when the seller comes forward with another for auction.

Im sorry, I cant appreciate this coin. Please spend your money on something worthwhile, not this. Some people have money to burn..and I bet thier the same people that complain about taxes too.
