I don't have the book on large cents, but maybe it has something to do with the extra flag in the 1 of the date.

Without reverse pics, can't say. The N-13, N-23, N-25 and N-26 all use the same obverse die. The only difference listed is that N-23 bulges outward from center and becomes more prominent with N-25 and N-26. This causes the center of the obv to wear quickly; the rev center tends to be sharp due to this. The reverse of the N-13 has two lines that connect the top of the U to the ribbon and a curved line that connects the U to the dentils. I'll have to check my copy of Grellman for the other die pairs and their markers.

i do like both of the CPG I own but if there is one thing i would not use them for it is attributing die marriages for any series

It may be pop 3 but how many are graded finer at PCGS, NGC and ANACS? How many people "need" one, ie collect all of these by variety numbers?...and do not have one already...and where that grade is acceptable to them? Go look at the variety registry sets here and ATS, click on the sets...if they actually have some of the varieties like this in their set then they might be considered an active collector. Have you looked up auction results with a free account over at coins.ha.com?

No DEMAND = No Value or just plain low value.

If you can answer some of the above questions then you might start to get some idea as to the value. Researching varieties can take a bit of time but answering the above questions will lead you in the right direction.

Also, if this thread stays alive for a while and you do not get any PM's inquiring about it then that would also be an indication of low demand.

    Good luck! image

The problem with TPG population reports is that they don't tell anywhere near the whole story. A significant fraction of the large cents in the marketplace and in collections, including ones in uncirculated grades, are raw. Many early copper collectors, who occasionally purchase slabbed coppers, take them home and promptly crack them out (many EACers view slabs as moisture traps). The population reports for these coins don't mean anything.

Continuing with the theme set by sonoradesertrat, and hoping to give the OP some more insight, your real collector base would be your EACer's, and then only those that work on the late dates, which I don't think are as popular as the early and middle dates. Next, they would likely not care about a 'Pop' report, rather, where does it fall in the EAC Condition Census......my guess would be, not very high, ergo not a lot of demand, and as someone has pointed out, value is a function of demand, so probably not a lot of value. But this is just my guess.
