Noob Qs: Trying to sort out slab changes
I tried using the advanced search function; I get a response that the page did not load with links. So I went to the Q&A section; I don't see any threads there. I next searched US coins for the following Q's. 50 threads later, I'm more confused.
I was quite into collecting until about a decade ago when the job duties really took off. It's nice to see forums where people can exchange ideas and learn from others. Can anybody assist a newb?
What is NEWP? I see it used to describe a coin. ?
I found a website for CAC. Whats the sense of their certifying a certified coin? Are there various levels of CAC?
How does one tell the generation of coin slab? Does anybody offer a PCGS slab reference page? Has the NGC slab become skinnier than the PCGS slab?

Yes

It's slang for a NEW Purchase.
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces

Welcome to the forum!
A newp is a new purchase.
CAC stickers coins that are high for the grade and undergraded. Many feel it helps when selling.
Here is a link to an excellent post on PCGS's slab history.
Lance.

They sticker coins they feel are at least solid for the grade, not necessarily just "high end".

i would say search for threads about this problem but ....
the advanced search function works only with specific versions in firefox and works at least with IE 9.
3.6 firefox = yes
4.0 firefox = no
ie 9 = yes
i'm back to firefox 4.0 so when i want to do an advanced search i just log into the forum via ie9
.
I appreciate the link, Lance. I found the NGC link on the PCGS thread. Those two companies are quite dynamic.
I'm using FireFox 12 though I may still have a copy of the older versions. I'll check. Thanks LanceNewmanOCC.
As far as CAC goes, Why? PCGS is about $20 for a new slab and don't they offer the "+" grades now? CAC (I believe) charges around $12 for a fresh set of eyes?
Then there's the green and gold CAC sticker I've read here. Are there variable levels of stickers?
