I'm starting to get a stockpile of modern rolls

I just had a couple more delivered, the El Yunque N.F. S mint. These will probably be placed with other rolls such as 2008 Sac rolls, but now I'm wondering why am I ordering rolls.

Do most of you guys that order rolls keep them intact or open them looking for something special? Even if I plucked out 1 or 2 that may grade 70 they may not be worth the cost of grading. What do you guys do with rolls and bags from the mint? I do collect mint marked ASEs but even if I could order them by the roll I doubt I'd be doing that; now a roll of UHRs would be nice.

I was into buying the bags because there was more of a chance of finding errors in the bags than the rolls. I have many unopened bags and the ones I have opened and searched have been for fun and really no profit. With the mints markup on these if you can pull out a few nice ones and maybe in a couple years they will become worth the slabbing fees. I have also started an experiment using the bags that the mint use to see if there is a toning element to the bags and I believe there is. Good luck with your stash, and hopefully someday you can open them up and search................Enjoy tom image

I had numerous State quarter rolls from the Mint until a couple years ago. Sold them all, or most anyway, sealed in Mint packaging. Lost money on most. I still have many modern Lincoln obw's. that I plan on keeping. I like my pennies for some unknown reasonimage

If you pick any MS70's they would be worth many times the grading fee. However the chance of getting a MS70 out of a roll is 0.00000001%

  • GrandAm, funnyI thought the odds of finding a 70 would be better in rolls than bags. In bags they're loose and beating eachother up where in rolls they're held tight in place.

IMO, the only useful US Mint Rolls are those which are not normally available at the Bank.

Presidential Dollars for 2012 in addition to Kennedy Half Dollars from 2002 to present, come to mind.

ATB Quarters may be useful until the series ends. Then they'll go the direction of the State Quarter Rolls. Straight into the potty!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You may indeed find high grade coins in rolls,,,,,,, MS67 & MS68's but MS70 business strikes are not likely to be found.

I don't know? One can get lucky and find a 68,69 or even a 70! You never know in this crazy business? Just ask,I'm sure someone found a 68 or 69 in a bank roll.Maybe in the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennials?

I too over the years stockpiled bank rolls/mint rolls and bags, then a few years back I started to like PMs more and turned the rolls into these.

  • Dang, you had a lot of rolls to turn them into that much silver with a bit of gold; even with todays prices.

When I sold my rolls, I was lucky if I got face for them.
