Help Pick The Rookie - 1954 Aaron 6 or 1963 Rose 7
Im thinking about sometime in the next few months treating myself to a nice Rookie card of a superstar that i have never owned. Maybe a Jordan, Jim Brown, Gale Sayers but i think im narrowing it down to:
1954 Aaron PSA6
or
1963 Rose PSA7
Basically looking at the $1,000 range. Tough call. 2 of my favorites.
Any thoughts?

Aaron has the better posible up-side
He made a mistake but no one can take away how great he was on the field.
If one is looking for investment potential all of the bad news is priced into his cards. All of the good news is priced into Aaron cards.
Longer term I think both are going up in price but from a purely investment standpoint only the Rose has an unforeseen catalyst that could cause his cards to really move higher.
I only have a few baseball cards myself but I picked up a nicely-centered
Rose rc,6 recently and I gotta say it looks good on the wall.you can spot it
a mile away! Think about a nice Namath rc. as well, thats a great rc. to.
Good luck and show a scan when you decide.
Needs'
1972 Football-9's high#'s
1965 Football-8's
1958 Topps FB-7-8
The only exception would be if it was a high end PSA 7 Rose with good centering.
I think both are pretty solid investments.
IMO the Rose rookie is one of the ugliest "important" post-war cards
Buy the Aaron and a nice '64 Rose - that's a beautiful card.
Always plenty of PSA-graded cards in my ebay store -- https://ebay.com/str/thelumbercompanysportscards

Well its more a purchase for personal collection enjoyment. Not looking to upgrade later on.
As far as getting an Aaron for $1,000 - its prob more in the $1,200 - $1,300 range - so yes i knew if i decided on Aaron id have to go higher than on the Rose. And I agree a PSA 6 Aaron can be a dangerous purchase if not paying attention
And for the other posts...i agree the Namath looks amazing
and yes....The Gretzky is an excellent choice as well!!
Lots of great ideas
I never liked the multi-player 1963 Rose rookie card.
<< <i>Nicely centered 1979 OPC Gretzky >>
That would be a PSA 8

<< <i>A A R O N in a landslide and ROSE was my childhood hero >>
+1
The Big Red Machine were my childhood heroes. I remember them both vividly (Aaron and Rose). I remember watching every Braves game in 1974 until the record was broken on April 8th and the thrill of pulling an Aaron out of the 1974 packs (all of the Aarons out of the 1974 packs). Even with the Reds dominating MLB, it wasn't as thrilling to pull a Rose from the packs (although Bench was a close second to Aaron). Clemente was the pull in 1973 and Jackson in 1975.
Even without all of Rose's foibles, I would still favor Aaron over Rose any day.
But, that's me.
