OT....Northern Lights possible Saturday night?

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,813 ✭✭✭✭✭
There was another huge solar flare today. The effects are supposed to hit Earth around Dawn Eastern time.

Might cause some communication disruptions worldwide, but might also cause some spectacular Northern Lights Saturday night visible quite a ways south. Or nothing may happen. Wouldn't hurt to take a look out Saturday evening.

I'm anticipating a zero percent chance that the aurora borealis will be visible to me, here on the east coast of FL image
But I did see them twice when I lived northern OH, and another time on vacation in upper MI.
Hopefully you northern forum members will get to enjoy this spectacle.

The Sun can destroy all out satellites and fry the planets electrical grid. Solar activity and sunspots runs in an 11 year cycle. The current period will increase in intensity toward years end......or, in other words, December 21, 2012 very well MAY hold a great and dramatic change.

Aaaaahhh! The Mayans were right! Dump all your coins and party like its 1999!
  • Last night's national news said the Aurora would extend to Alabama and California. I found that very scary. See the Carrington event of 1859. The local news' map showed it extending only to Michigan and Massachusetts.
