For me it was in 1984 and I received a 1912S cent in fine condition in change at a cafeteria.

I've been collecting since 1961. While I found some Lincoln cents of value while searching rolls and bags back in the early 1960's I don't recall ever having received a Lincoln cent of any real value in change.

The same thing holds true for nickels, dimes, quarters and half dollars. I found some "good" ones while searching rolls but don't recall ever having received a "good" one in change.

I think a 1919 in AU is the most valuable I received in change.

I found this 1994 DDR from roll searching that sold for around $200.

For myself it was in 2003. I found, literally, on the ground a 1999 " Wide A.M." cent. It was in pretty good shape still. So I sent it in ( across the street ,NGC ) It came back a 64RB. I recently sold it for 200$. Not bad huh? I know, I shouldn't of sold it! Needed the money. My greatest coin in change, yet.

Back around 1997 found a 1995-D doubled die, the major one, in some change from a grocery store purchase. It's in EF-AU condition and I think the last sale on eBay I saw was somewhere in the $200-$300 range for a similar coin. Still have the coin and I don't believe there are many that have been found to date.
  • Not valuable but I received a 1943 steel penny in change about 5 years ago which blew my mind...

    Ever found?

Well, about 1960 or so, a 1922 Plain Lincoln cent.

    Long gone.

A 1995 doubled die back in 1995. I was on the look out for them and I actually found one. It was AU, and probably worth only $20.
