I looked at the R&I Website today and learned that RT is going to update his 1991 book on 1950-7

The first book has lots of good information about this niche area. I wonder how much an improvement a second edition of same will have [besides digital pictures and population report data].
Who would pick up a copy of the second edition?

I'll buy a copy.
To be Honest, I got very little out of the 1st Edition which had next to nothing regarding varieties or doubled dies.
I don't think I feel the need to purchase a second edition.

I think you may be thinking of the wrong author and the wrong book. I don't believe Flynn did a book on 1950-1970 cameos.

For a collector like you [very knowledgeable and one who devotes time to searching for and collecting varieties] RT's first book on 1950-70 Cameos would not be very helpful. That book has very little information on the numerous varieties that exist in this niche area [If I recall correctly it only covers the 1956 Type 1 and 2 Franklin halves, the 1951 Tumor variety quarter, the 1960 and 1970 Small and Large date cents and the 1967 Dot Head Kennedy half].
For other collectors who are new to this niche area of the hobby, the book provides a wealth of information about the minting process that created these coins and information about each of the coins in the entire series.
Again, other than digital pictures of some of the best Cameo and DCAM examples of these coins and current reported TPG populations for these coins [plus current value ranges for these coins] I do not see an updated version of the book being much different in content than the original.
The R&I site talks of a 2nd Edition of the 1991 book. So a new book is not an accurate description.
Cameonut sent me a copy of the 1984 Val Webb book on Cameo proofs from 1950-1964. It is a very good book and you can assume that some of the material in the VW book made it into the 1991 RT book.
I doubt there will be much new info in an updated version of the 1991 book that we don't already know. Of course, prices and pops can be updated, but the rest is still pretty much the same.
One area that could be discussed is varieties - that was mostly omitted from the original with a few exceptions. Other than that, I'll take a wait-and-see approach, and look at the final product whenever it comes out. (I won't be holding my breath.) j
Edited to add: The Val Webb book was the groundbreaker in this area of collecting, but alas, has very few photos. The Tomaska book's biggest contribution was the photographs.

Thought it'd be fun to see a few of my coins in the book. We will see what comes of it.
<< <i>Am I the only one that has contacted Rick offering coins for inclusion in the new version? I haven't heard back from him after emailing this afternoon, but thought I may have a few that could be hard to find.

Don't hold your breath on a return call. I offered any of my coins for inclusion in his last project and never got called back.
Personally, I find more satisfaction having my coins shown in Coin Facts than any print book.
