<< <i>Does this slab command a premium with the plastic collectors? >>
Coins in most of these third world slabs should be treated as raw coins and command no premium.

As a slab collector, I think the Numex slabs do hold a modest premium. They were one of the many "me too" companies in the late 1980s - early 1990s that tried to compete. The only coins I have seen in the slabs are MS Mercury dimes and MS Franklin halves.
They, along with many other "me too" companies, used (i.e. licensed) ACG slabs/molds for their holders.

<< <i>Only two!!! The king/queen; PCGS and the prince/princess; NGC. The only "True" slabs. Sorry other guy's, it is,what it is! >>
Time for another sip?
Does it rock your world that PCGS and NGC were copycats? Neither of the "only two" were the innovators in numismatic certification. Do a little research and you may be shocked as to who laid the groundwork for them. PCGS and NGC are certainly the two current leaders (and deservedly so), but they were not the first.

Don't you agree? Do you think these big companies would deal with the least known/unfamiliar slabs? Which slabs would be the most desired overall? Even though, the main two weren't first, what about the NOW factor? Who cares what happened in the past? It's now what makes the money/fame!

While I don't collect slabs, I understand some do.....I guess some posters don't understand that. As mentioned, I would think that, to a limited audience, yes, there is probably a slight premium to the slab, if they are harder to find and particularly if they were from someone trying to be a company and sealed....not just someone like me who could put 2 pieces together with a printed insert and had no desire to be thought of as a grading company.
Yes,I do agree the ACG slab is cool,it's just unfortunate even though it was the first grading slab. Which is a real shame on their part, but it's like the old ma and pop stores. Look what happen to all those poor folks! Even though they were the first, they had to close shop too. Just as ACG and all of the rest of the victims of circumstances. PCGS/NGC is like the Walmarts and Target and other big guy's that took over. Signs of the times!

There are some things a numismatist has to let go of. Esp. if there's no profit or interest in a certain item. Don't you agree? Sure old coins ( from the past ) some are worth looking into, but also, there are some that are not!

If you really think what should motivate a numismatist is profit or somebody else's interest in an item, then you really are clueless about the field. >>
Yeah, whoever heard of a coin collector having " interest" in another persons coin,or whoever heard of a coin collector wanting to make a " profit " on a coin! Unheard of! Anybody thinking like this is NOT a " numismatist "! Yeah right!

i happen to collect coins and do a lot of my collecting coins in PCGS slabs.
That being said, I also like collecting old PCGS and NGC slabs and some other old slabs of other grading services such as Hallmark, etc. It is not my primary focus but it is a fun diversion from my primary focus.
Furthermore, collecting sample slabs of all grading services has also been a fun diversion for me as well.
Speaking of profits, while profits was not my motive, some of the biggest percentage increase in values has come from the old TPG slabs that no one sees anymore. Sure there is limited interest in these slabs; but the supply to satisfy the demand for them is even tighter.
What ever happened to buy the coin, not the holder? Now it's only buy PCGS and NCG, but only if they have a bean.. Joeykoins, you keep chasing those PCGS and NCG holders and leave the dreck for us to go after... Remember if you touch a old PCI slab you'll get cooties!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
I once purchased an ACG graded 1921 Peace Dollar,It was graded a MS 63, I cracked it out to send to PCGS,Guess what? It came back in a body bag! So much for other slabs!

You are just making the older non PCGS/NGC slabs more and more rare. Especially the very inexpensive ones that we already know are over graded. . Especially the sample slabs.

And, that shows that you bought the coin and not the holder? That you know how to grade and/or spot problem coins?

I think it was Russ (hard to remember because I suffer from CRS) that bought a 1967 SMS Kennedy in a NTG slab for next to nothing, cracked it out and scored a 66 or 67 DCAM at PCGS. Yes, buy the coin and not the plastic!! There are good and bad coins in every holder, if PCGS was as perfect as you say they are they wouldn't have a gaurentee!! But that is one of the reasons I love PCGS plastic!!

there are a lot of letter combinations on slabs that guys with nice printers come up with.
