Errors on Colonial and Fugio's?

  Neat coin...yes, yay you!
  
  Errors (in a variety of types, shapes, and sizes) are pretty common on colonials.
  
  I think clipped planchets are pretty common on Fugios.
  
  It just adds to the charm of the coin.

  Errors on colonials are quite common, but I'm not convinced on this one. I think something was used to clamp the coin while the hole was made, and left indentations. Lines up perfectly.

  I have to disagree, obviously , comparing this to other incomplete clips, the subsequent strike pushed the design into indent left by the gang punch (or whatever they used to create planchets at that time).

  I'm think this is the case too as if it was an incomplete clip it would be the same curvature/radius as the coin and this indent isn't even close.

  It is said the metal strip was 1/16 inch thick, 1 1/4 inch wide and 18 inches long. The metal was polished. The planchet cutter had a long handle and you fed in the strip and pulled hard on the handle. When it "didn't go through" the first time, push it inca little and pull harder. Tony Carlotto told me errors like this are scarce but not rare.
  
  On the OPs coin though, I suspect PMD in that the hole driller placed two coins around the fugio when it was clamped into a vise to drill the hole

  I picked up this clipped New Jersey copper last year, I've seen several clips on Fugio cents and I'd dearly love to pick one up for my type set someday.
