What are the most absurd phrases used in eBay listing?

astroratastrorat Posts: 9,221 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'll start ...

I always get a kick out of "Will make a great addition to any collection!" in an item's description. Really? Any collection? That must be a comfort for those who are unsure about the coin. How nice that the seller magically knows it will be a great addition to your collection! How nice!

What's really funny is that this phrase tends to appear in the description of awful coins.

RARE. There are 12,963 rare US coins on Ebay right now. I bet not 50 are RARE.

Yep thats a good one. Funny thing is we sell all sorts of things (including coins) that we buy from estates but we never mention that in listings.

And this is absurd to describe a coin with multiple colors in the spectrum why?

(I will grant you that a significant percentage of coins so described probably don't qualify...)

Im thinking about starting that policy. I just sold something to a buyer with 50 feedbacks that
has NEVER left one feedback for anyone!! eBay is starting to dissapoint in yet anouther way.

I agree of course, but I would like to note that it's not just ebay - even well respected dealers fall into talking about how the coin will fit right into any nice collection or whatever. This also applies to many of the other comments here as well - maybe not so much the leave good feedback ones of course.

"undergraded", or "should grade", or "should be", implying that it's a higher grade/worth more than the major TPG's slab says it is. image

Absurd isn't limited to eBay. Seen some You Tube videos concerning coins or numismatics? I cringe when ever I see a self proclaimed "collector" handling loose or stacked coins carelessly or roughly. Sliding them across their faces in their hand. Tossing them into a pile. Hearing them clang together. Seeing them with their big thumb right across the surface of a supposed "new uncirculated" collectors item. Shudder!!
