Public Thank You and Apology to 1Tommy

Over the past weekend 1Tommy offered valuable assistance to me in ID'ing a rare variety that I didn't realize I had. I got caught up in the excitement, combined with a very hectic weekend, I didn't realize I had neglected to thank him.

So, a VERY big Thank You is due to you for you help!

Thanks Wes and thank you for opening up my eyes once again, I got caught up in the you suck awards and Now realize that a thank you is way more cool than the you suck award, and that helping out other members IS what this place is about. Sharing info is how I learn and without those willing to share there knowledge this place would not be as fun, so I too have learned another lesson......and thanks for your thanks Enjoy

1952 Proof Washington Quarter "Superbird" with hand engraved tail feathers. FS-902, PCGS has only graded 2.

Also wanted to add Wes already knew of these being around all I did was help him notice that the one he had was this variety and provided him the link, the other is the 1953 Proof ETF thread that started all this, that is the one that I truly felt by me posting my find it ended up forcing me to sell off because others found examples that were already graded higher than mine. I too keep learning lessons and that is what life is about, the selling of that coin was never about making the you suck award, it was about me spending the time researching and finding an example for my OWN collection and than feeling like after my post I had to sell now because of the others found. In the end I think I should have kept the coin instead of feeling like I had to sell it right away as the coin meant more to me than the money............Enjoy tom 1953 thread

When this coin was first posted, I thought it was a FS-902. However, I have been wrong so many times trying to interpret pictures rather than the coins themselves, that I kept mum on this one. I should have dropped a PM to the OP. My apologies are hereby tendered for that omission.

CPG mentions 3 differences from the FS-901:
Tail feathers have hand engraved details.
Bottom of S is worn or polished away. I can see that.
Enhanced wing feathers. Can anybody expand on that? pictures?

I have one of these somewhere, but I don't know where. It may be in the safe deposit box.

In all the examples I own including the cameo's all of them do not show the bottom of the S I have not seen an example where the whole S shows. The Tail feathers is now how I can tell if its the 902 on the 1952 and 901 on the 1953 . I do now see rereading the cherry pickers guide that they do mention on the 1953 The lower edges of the feathers were also strengthened in the same manner......... so I don't know if thats just on the 1953 or it includes the 1952. No example of the 1957 d exist as far as I can tell. and I have been now searching for over the past 8 months for a 1957 example. In looking at the example of the 1952 902 that I have from Mike (illini420) thanks to him for selling me the set, I do notice what appear to be lines in the wing feathers that look like raised lines too. I have not sent in my 1952 yet because when I bought the set from mike there all in old holders and the slabs are all sequencially numbered. Help out someone who is NOT accomplished with respect to these coins. Is the re-engraving the thin raised lines on the tail feathers? OR ??

I only ask because I have one of these.
