79 Topps baseball wax box break - collation?

Hi everyone
I recently picked up a nice 79 topps wax box on ebay. I am not very experienced with Topps baseball and was wondering if the collation on my box is typical. There was tons of duplication in the box:

3 Ozzie Smith
4 Bench
4 Morgan

Multiples of many commons and singles of Ryan, Molitor, Brett, Yount. Is this pretty typical? At the rate from this box, it woudl take a whack of unopened wax to ever complete a set of these? I like opening a hockey box of older opc and knowing i have pretty much a full set on my hands when i'm done although the Topps cards came out of the packs much cleaner than the hockey i open with the exception of atrocious centering on some.

Three Ozzies, nice.
I believe Bench and Morgan were both double-printed, so it's no surprise you found several of those

1979 is an enormous set - it would take several wax boxes to complete a set, even if the collation was decent

Hey Jamie,

Was that the box I auctioned? I'm glad you got three Ozzie RCs. Any submittable? It would be cool to see the scans. I opened a handful of packs but not enough to get a sense of the collation. A few cards had the dreaded surface wrinkles across the entire card, some had the usual off centering and some were really nice. the best card I pulled was a Thurman Munson which got a 9. I still have 6 boxes that I'm going to trickle out to the market over time. I think these will continue to go up as the supply dries up. BBCE hasn't had a box of '79 Topps available for quite some time.

Yes it was your box. The three ozzie,s were all badly oc but I knew there was a good
Chance of that going in. Thank you for a quality wax product!

Thanks for the feedback Jamie. Hopefully you got some good submittable cards (assuming that's your goal) like the Ryan. The Ozzie's are tough. I think BBG has opened a handful of rack boxes and the best one he pulled was an 8.

There should be some nice submittable cards. Unfortunately no superstar types - the Ryan is an easy 8 based on centering but there are some very nice cards in the lot that i'm going to check the pop reports and see where some of them may stand. It'll also be a nice start to a set i plan to work on for myself.

I think Marc Hill is one of the toughest commons based on what I read in the BBG thread. I'm sure there are a lot of others though since the borders are small on this issue.
