    Lets be honest...this set has always been popular. There is no denying that.

    However, this to me looks like an example of a buyer who just conducted a "fake sale" either buying it from an alt account or having a friend buy the card.. in an attempt to try and set a new price level for these cards. He probably has a hoard of raw/graded for this set and this is step 1 in his strategy to unload.

    I just can't imagine a rationale collector paying this price for this card.

    The buyer is a well-known collector of 1993 Refractors and has the #1 set on the Registry.

    Seeing this card sell for this price makes me feel a lot better about spending $500 on my 1983 Wrestling All Stars Salvatore Bellomo PSA 10 Pop 1.

    I sold all of my pop 1 psa 10 Murphys to one collector down in Florida who was willing to pay around $500 for each of them. I justified it by convincing myself that if I (me) was able to find 1, then I'd probably be able to find others at some point. Still waiting. LOL.

    Here is a little backround on this card and this auction.

    First of all it was the last card Scott (pinhead42) needed to complete
    the set in PSA 10 (except of course for the Pop 0 B. Williams).

    When the pop report went from 2 to 3 he asked me and a few other
    collectors of this set to be on the lookout for it. While I still need it for
    my set at that price it is going to have to wait quite a while.

    He had missed out on the second Snow to pop because of a buyer
    who jumps all over low pop PSA 10's (but doesn't collect them)
    and then immediately shops them around to collectors on the Set
    Registry. Because of past dealings he refuses to deal with this eBayer.
    So when this auction was first posted I emailed him and about an hour
    later he bought it. I was kind of suprised he would buy it for that kind
    of money but it was the last card he needed and he didn't have to deal
    with the parasite.

    As others have said...the Set Registry is a hell of a drug...

    Congrats to the Registry guy with the #1 set!

    Still 5k is incredible.

    We should have bought those boxes awhile back. Could have really cleaned up I think.

    Yeah, figure ~$300/box, and there's only one refractor per box, it's a pretty tough set to build... especially in PSA 10.

    That BIN price is definitely a seller taking advantage of the Set Registry builders, but I guess since he was able to sell it at that price, that's the market value at that time. Oh well!

    No Carlton, the person who owns Deadman's sets is the same person who
    bought several PSA graded Griffey's from you at Knutson's card store about
    18 months ago....me.
