CBH - list of clashed EAR BAR varieties

lavalava Posts: 3,287 ✭✭✭
Has anyone taken the time to compile such a list of the dates and Overton numbers which show EAR BAR clashing? I am preparing to prepare such a list if one does not exist, but no point if someone has one, in which case please share.

I am guessing there must be at least 30 on the list.

I would not call the 1814 O-103 clashing Ear Bars.

Maybe we should ask posters with new Ear Bar marriages, or die states, to show pictures.

I defer to you, Mozin. Here's a close-up, though. I would have guessed this would count.

So no one has ever created this list before? I am looking for a list where the EAR BARS are evident on at least one example, even if not typical for the date/variety. At a minimum, I know for sure the following all come with EAR BARS:

    1808 o-108a
    1809 o-102a
    1810 o-106
    1810 o-108a
    1810 o-109
    1810 o-109a
    1811 o-103a
    1811 o-104a
    1811 o-106
    1812 o-103
    1812 o-105a
    1812 o-106
    1812 o-109a
    1812 o-110
    1813 o-101
    1813 o-101a
    1813 o-102
    1813 o-106a
    1813 o-108a
    1813 o-109
    1813 o-109a
    1813 o-110
    1814 o-103
    1814 o-105
    1814 o-105a
    1814 o-106
    1814 o-106a
    1814 o-107
    1814 o-108
    1815 o-101
    1815 o-101a
    1817 o-106
    1817 o-106a
    1818/7 o-101a
    1818 o-107
    1818 o-108
    1818 o-113
    1819/8 o-104
    1819/8 o-104a
    1819 o-110
    1819 o-110a
    1819 o-115
    1821 o-106a
    1827/6 o-102
    1827/6 o-103
    1827 o-105
    1827 o-106
    1827 o-127
    1828 o-130
    1828 o-122

I am sure there are more, just not sure how many more.

I am no expert but I too would count the 1814 O-103 as an ear bar. the bars are set a bit higher than others and the stripes are more noticeable than in some of the others.

    Nice list, lava! Good job.

I don't see ear bars on most of the 27/6 O.102's. But you've probably seen an example.

OK, now I see that Lance's O-103 does have the Ear Bars. I did not look up high enough. Sorry Lance and others. It was Father's Day after all.

One thing about these clashed marriages, since the dies may have clashed after some coins were made, don't expect all in the marriage to have the Ear
Bars. If the EDS has some examples with the bars, we would expect the LDS to have them --- unless the LDS dies were polished.

I think only the 1814 E/A O-108a has the bars. The O-108 would not have the bars.

Here is the 1818/7 O-101a with bars, not yet on the list.

And, the 1819/8 O-104, not yet on the list.

Lance, for the 1827/6 o-102, check out the 3rd edition of Overton, as the photo used clearly shows the EAR BARS.

I don't doubt it. I just looked at a handful. Here's mine that hasn't got the clashing.

Any Bust Halves especially 1813 and 1814 which are known to have clash marks are candidates for the bars on the ears. Its not limited to any particular date or variety IMO, but some varieties are documented in the O book for having those ear bars....
