Post an off metal coin!

I love off metals, and here's one I just got back from PCGS today. It's 100% aluminum.
I took these pictures under my stovelight on a cheaper digital camera image.

If I saw that one on ebay raw I probably would have thought it was an incomplete planchet.
    What's the story behind it??

Funny you say that because I bought it raw on eBay. The San Francisco Mint struck proof coins in limited quantity (a few thousand or so for each date) for Nepal from 1970 - 1975. The partial date looks like 1970 but a mintmark should be visible if it's an S-mint. It could be a 1976, but that would pretty much eliminate it being SF-mint coin for that particular date, so maybe the planchet wandered....I don't really know.

goodmoney4bad, I am pretty sure your coin is not on a Nepal planchet, but is on a 1976 Philippine 1 sentimo. I've owned 2 or 3 of them, and they look like your coin, with at least 1 of the edges showing a flat area. The weight is correct for being on a 1976 Philippine 1 sentimo, at 18.5 grains. Here is a link to what the Philippine coin looks like---> http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2447.html

I would show it to Fred Weinberg to see what he thinks. Great error though, and one of my favorite types of nickel off-metals!

I submitted the coin to PCGS as a 1976 Philippine sentimo planchet, and this is how I got it back.

    Linkified.

I recently bought my first off-metal, a 1960 cent on a dime planchet. It sold in a Heritage auction back in January in an NGC holder net graded AU, then for some reason the buyer cracked it out and put it on eBay. I wound up winning it for about 20% less than the Heritage hammer price. I'll try to post pics soon.
