PCGS Grade Review

I sent in a coin that had PVC paid the $54 to PCGS to have them review it. They removed the PVC and kept the fee. I don't understand why I should have to pay for them to honor there guarantee. Am i missing something? Has it always been like this?

something sounds amuck that a person should be out money if a coin in question is found to have issues...
I would put the complaint in writing, or maybe PM DW.

No it was a Quarter. I will have to maybe put my concern in writting. The process seems backwards. I sent it in as a "spot review" but they said they don't do that any more every coin which is review for buy back requires $25 in grade review fees, $8 processing fees, and $16.95 in shipping. It just doesn't seem right IMHO

You might get a more favorable response if you use honey instead of vinegar.
I would not make a complaint at this time but maybe send Mr. Willis or Mr. Hall an email or PM explaining the situation, your concerns and the corrective action you were looking for (more on the lines of asking for an explanation of what the procedures are and how this type of situation is handled by PCGS).

As much as I like Kool-Aid, I hear this over and over.
In my business, it is all about customer service. I hope PCGS is listening.

Mozin, are you saying that:
- if a coin with PVC is submitted for a spot review, and
- PCGS chooses to conserve it rather than make a guarantee payment (because it belongs in a genuine #99, as it stands),
- then the owner has to pay for PCGS's decision to try to save the coin (and their guarantee money)?
I'm really struggling with this. Is this is writing anywhere?

I thought it was mentioned here quite some time back about a $25 fee for spot review, esp. on milk spotted ASEs. Discussed HERE among other places.
