I've been watching this one rise all week (and I have no connection to it)...

It's going to go high. I wouldn't bid on it though, can't tell enough with those pictures. You would think the seller would get decent photos of a coin of this nature.

This seller has no history of selling coins. Hmmmmm, probably legit but a reason to be cautious.

    Lousy pics hurts him.

I am not so sure it is fake but even if it isn't the seller is leaving money on the table and not maximizing the coins potential in that forum where he isn't established. He would be better putting it on HA and letting the dealers and collectors duke it out.

    BTW...that's a valid cert number...with a $10k price tag.

Possible stolen goods? Seller doesn't ordinarily sell coins, but happens to have a $10k Morgan dollar, which he doesn't bother to photograph very well. Very suspicious. Maybe he picked it up cheap at the local pawn shop, where it was brought in by a thief.

Not to sound naive...but maybe dad...or someone else in the family just died.

    Not very likely, but possible.

...or somebody got very lucky with a random pick up.

Looking at the obverse picture, I'm thinking fake. image

That's quite a gamble whatever the reason or explanation. I wouldn't have the nuts to bid on it even if I did have the money to gamble with.
I am curious what the reserve price is though.

I think the coin is legit. Whether it belongs to the seller is another story. I know I wouldn't want to take the chance.

If someone ddint know coins well and was trying to dump it on Ebay I doubt there would be a reserve on it.

ONLY brought $6K in bids. Why didnt it bring more?

    Bad Photos?
    Seller History?
    Something Else.

That coin, represented right, should have EASILY gone over $9K........

All of the above. Coin would do better elsewhere IMHO.

I think that the price is in the ballpark of what you should expect.

    .
whether it is honest or not setting reserves that high will build up fees quite quickly and with no sale this account will probably be abandoned

of course with all these counterfeits and altered coins i've seen recently i admit i am at defcon 3.5 ><

It seems if the coin were a fake or stolen the person would have let it go for $6K+ instead of setting a reserve of $9.5K.
