With a TT win last night, a small set of mine finally makes the top spot!

There is a lesson about patience in here somewhere. And sure, you're thinking, "small cents, big deal!" but top type exmples of anything pre-1958 are rare as hen's teeth hard as heck to find.
Anyway, it's been maybe two years I've been looking for a nice steelie in 68. Then in the past three months, there were like 12 up for auction. The first few sold for big money. Not for me. The last few brough the prices to within reason, but Heritage had the nerve to schedule the auction while I was on vacation. Then I got an email from the TT want-list for this one. I cross-referenced the cert with PCGS and found this nice Heritage photo from 2009 and decided to put a modest bid on it. Surprisingly, while I was out bike riding last night, I won.
I still would like to find a nicer bronze CAM or DCAM Indian. Otherwise, my set sits just fine with me just the way it is

My computer shows Chapman at 69.60 and Cardinal at 69.56.
Congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment to move Cardinal off the top spot...in any registry.

I have it on some authority (actually just a old time dealer) that PCGS isn't even grading 68's any more. Something about milkspots developing after grading, and the liability costs rising due to increased values. I wonder if that's true

There was an NGC MS69 in one of the Heritage auctions not too long ago... but the lot was withdrawn pretty quickly after it showed up in the catalog and before I had a chance to see it at lot viewing... I heard from folks at the lot viewing that the coin wasn't close to MS69 quality so they pulled it.
Congrats on that Small Cent Type Set... just awesome!!!! And very nice find of the Heritage images on that Teletrade purchase! I'm sure you would have had a little more competition if the Teletrade images showed that level of detail.
