Has anyone turned to other graders recently thanks to PSA's loggage issues?

...I was just curious if the current problems/backlog with the cards getting logged in has caused collectors to look to some of the other graders, namely SGC and Beckett?

I have been going to SGC now, not because of logging problems,my membership ran out and i don't submit enough to warrant paying a membership fee.
  • I normally submit almost all modern to BGS and vintage to PSA. I'll be holding off on sending in more vintage for a bit....

Beckett has the same problem, just piggy backed on a sub, and it took 10 days to get logged in as well. The sub did pop in like 4 days though, on a 10 day submission.

I use BGS for modern (they haven't had a decent Special in forever and their Registry is non functional) but they start their time the day after it is received and their service levels are guaranteed... If they miss their deadline you don't pay.

That is normal. BGS loggage can takes days or weeks (45 day subs can take 6-8 weeks for loggage), but the count down always starts the day after the package is recieved.

i sent in two orders, one was a 20 day for $6 and one was the free 5 day renewal. the 20 day popped in 5 and the 5 day has not popped, but it's only day 6.

I recently went to SGC for 2 submissions of 1952 Topps. First one was rough. Second a bit more in line with the standard kick in the groin. I have a number of cards for my 2 registry sets I would like to get into PSA. However I am waiting for the backlog to clear and a competitive special.

Will continue to watch the boards for the kumbayah moment.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't send modern to Beckett.
I've sent 26 bowman chrome auto cards this year to psa and gotten 18 psa 10's, for a success rate of 69.2%.
    The rest were 9's.

I'd much rather have all those psa 10's than beckett 9.5's. image
  • It's not so much the loggage issues that give me headaches as the fraudulent cards. We've read about it a few times on here, but after discovering one in my own collection (a '67 Mantle PSA 8) I've been frustrated after being a multi-year member. I cracked the Mantle out, so it could be removed from circulation. May be the end of my membership though. I've read online that people use certain methods to loosen the cases so that they are nearly undetectable. Mine was a bit more detectable, but still done well as I didn't notice it when I first received the card.

That's much... Even if they are "guidelines", that's absolutely ridiculous... Call and complain imo you are entitled to some free grades with that BS.

mailed 2 different subs on the 18th that logged yesterday - not too bad now, seems like they're getting a bit caught up.

I think the issue I have is the normal backlog and then the incredibly long wait if one chooses to send cards in that do not have a guaranteed turn around time. The cards I have are not worth sending in for the quicker grading time so I usually send in with the non-guaranteed times. While I understand that it can take 45 days to grade, when you combine this with the 2-3 week loggage, waiting nearly three months for my cards to come back just seems too long for mewhen factoring in shipping times there and back.

SGC has better turn around times and better customer service and their prices are very competetive. It is very easy to contact someone at SGC and speak about any issue that has come up regarding their service and I have felt they have always been very transparent. I like their holders and they are tamper-evident so I have not run into any issues with buying a card that was resealed in a PSA holder. I just wish PSA would address these issues but it seems since their are top dog they really have no reason to make the needed changes to protect their customers and provide a overall better customer experience.

I know it seems like I am biting the hand that allows me to post but I like PSA and would submit so much more if some of these issues were addressed. I really do feel that reducing turnaround times and addressing holder security would do so much for their business and make them an even bigger dog in the grading business. These issues prevent many from using PSA as the TPG of choice and I know some who have stayed away from higher end PSA cards because of the threat of holder manipulation.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

I'm with you 100%. Very well said. I haven't sent a submission to PSA in over 6 months. Last submission to SGC was an advertised 20 day turnaround and I had the cards back in my hands in 18 days. Works good for me. And you're right their customer service is top notch, they bend over backwards to help you, or at least they have with me. When they say they'll call you back, they actually do. Unusual in this day and age.

I gave some stuff to SGC at the Hofstra show on April 22nd. It was $5 a card. I got them back on May 4th. I do love how the cards look in the black holders
