2008-W Reverse of 2007-W Question

I have this over in the B/S/T thread but I'm just wondering for my own sake...can toning happen inside a PCGS encapsulated case? I've had these in my safe since 2008 and they were vacuum sealed (food saver). I just cut them out of the sealed bag to take scans and possibly sell them. Thanks for any help on the toning. The raw one also looks to be slightly toned on the obverse by the "Y" in LIBERTY

Depending upon whether or not a small piece of organic material was encased with the coin (i.e. dust, dandruff, skin, etc.) will dictate whether of not they tone. Yours apperas ti have something down near the date.

Remember a slab is NOT airtight and .999 silver will tone from leaving it on a window sill.

As 19lyds said... contamination causes tarnish.. and if it went into the slab (which is not airtight), it will progress, until the chemical resource is depleted.....Cheers, RickO

That is why I sold all of mine.

I did not want to experience this problem.

They still are not going for what I sold mine for.

to some.

others no.

there are die hard toning collectors, especially with the silver coins like the eagles.

but if the color is universally described as "ugly" then it would likely hurt the value.

In short, the answer is: it depends. I hope things are clearer now!
