About 10 years ago, I began getting back into collecting coins. I had not been active for about 15 years and much had changed. I was open to any guidance I could get. I had the good fortune of making a connection with Charlie after meeting him at one of the NH coin shows. He was incredibly generous with his time and always willing to share his unparalleled knowledge. I could tell instantly that Charlie was an honest and kind gentleman.
Because he was always doing his part to promote the hobby, at the Manchester Coin and Currency Expo he would make a 90-minute presentation on coin grading. He had worked as a grader with PCGS for a total of 9 years and had graded millions of coins. I would make it a point to go to the presentation every year because it was so good. He was incredibly knowledgeable and always had interesting stories to share.
He helped me avoid some bad purchases and educated me on the finer details of coin grading and building a collection. He also took his time to share his thoughtful guidance with my two young boys when I introduced them to the hobby.
In July 2016 I bumped into him at a Frankie Valli concert in Gilford, NH. He took time to chat with my boys and make them feel special. He was always so gracious and kind.
A few years ago he gave me an excellent deal on a 1883 No Cents Liberty Nickel. (MS 66+/CAC).
In honor of him, I may never part with it.
It was emotional when he informed everyone that he was moving to Virginia. But he had planned to continue to come to the NH shows. He was one of the best people I have every met. He will be missed.

I am sure that many of us unknowingly have coins in our collections that Charlie graded - adding a measure of connectiveness even for those of us who did not know him personally. To his friends and family condolences.

I didn't know the man and never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he was clearly a big impact on people here, and that says a lot. RIP, my thoughts go out to his family, friends and peers.
