There is a Newfoundland collection in our local club auction this Sunday. The description is:

1865-1947 Newfy Collection 1c-50c (120 pieces) Almost complete G-AU

The opening bid is $1600

I'm really curious to see the coins. Anyone know how many different Newfie coin there are?

If you have a copy of "Trends", remember that the prices there are in Canadian dollars (US $$ is approx $1.30 Cdn). If there's an 1873 or 1885, 5 cent; an 1870, 1873, 1875 or 1885 10 cent or an 1873 20 cent, then it may be a good buy. Approx the same dates (1870, 73, 76, 80. 85 & 88) also apply to the 50 cents, but all the 50 cents should be there

Bill, I'll look at the coins before the auction to see if those dates are there and in what condition. The only price guide I have is an old Charlton Catalogue.

Is it in the old Library of Coins albums? Those are worth about $100 themselves.

Haven't seen the coins yet. I have to wait until Sunday to view the lot.

I had an 88 50C at one time, only VG, but wish I had kept it. Now have 88 $2 in PCGS 58; I'll keep that one !

Don, are you going to let us bid?
IMO, NFL has nowhere to go but UPPPPPPPPPPPPP ifgrade in most cases is better than VF20.

Come to the coin show today in Cheektowaga, NY and you can bid.

I look at the collection this morning. They were in 2x2s. The Large cents were nice. It had the 1880 varieties, oval and narrow 0. It didn't have the key 5c dates, 1873 and 1873H. The Vicky 50c coins were fairly worn. I won't be bidding on the lot. I valued the collection at $1000 tops.

Cheektowaga = Buffalo, NY airport. So go next time if you are in the area.
