NESCC

Just received a partial set graded NM/MT from them and was disappointed. I know they deal in a lot of cards but it seems when they have a lot/partial set they pick out the best looking cards and picture them and offer no other description so that leaves you to believe they represent the lot. Outside of the pictured cards I would say 70-80 percent have problems, mostly centering, on the lot I received. Any others have similar experiences.

When I was new to grading a few years back I sent in several dozen cards from sets I bought from them. Corners were sharp, but I didn't pay much attention to centering back then and got a bunch of 9oc or 7s on cards that I initially thought we be 8s, 9s, 10s. Learned a lot since then. Overall been happy with what I bought from them as raw, but they are pulling the sharpest cards and getting them graded to resell under their other name 4 sharp corners.

I have hit a few decent surprises on some lots I bought from them. 8.5 on a 1969 basketball card and several 8/9s on 1970 basketball

I am not sure of the exact nature of their relationship, if they're actually part of the same company, or just have some sort of arrangement, but it has been my understanding that whatever raw cards that 4sharpcorners deems as not worthy of grading, they dump off to New England Sports Cards for them to sell. So, while I've never purchased any raw lots from NESCC, I'm not the least bit surprised that you would say that the cards are "off" or flawed. If they they didn't have flaws, NESCC wouldn't have them for sale. They'd be on the 4SC website.

Doug is right. NESC is part of 4SC. It's how they blow out their raw cards. Now, having said that, it doesn't necessarily mean they're ALL rejects. I've seen them blow out their large stash of raw that they hadn't submitted yet and the graded demand had already crashed for the card so there was no point in sending them in. But yeah, for the most part, I would operate under the assumption that there's a reason they aren't in a slab being sold on 4SC.

Thanks I don't know where I have been, LOL but for some reason I didn't realize they were one in the same.

I bought a 1981 Topps Pete Rose from them two years ago. They had a bunch up for sale, scrutinized all of them and settled for what thought was the best centered one. Ended up grading a PSA 9 and wouldn't be surprised if it would get a PSA 10 on a resub. Sometimes they miss things. It has a small fisheye on it, which may be why they they rejected it, but I don't think PSA docks your grade for it.

Yes, I had a similar experience last year. I bought a 1970-71 Topps basketball set from them and returned it because the quality was not what I was let to believe based on the description (NM-MT) and pictures.

Yeah, they do. A fisheye will keep it out of a 10 slab, unfortunately.

They’re out there and have owned some, but not sure if they have changed their stance on this, and nowadays not allowing any card with a fish eye in a 10 holder.

Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

Think it still happens to this day on occasion. I've actually had a Scottie Pippen RC 1988 fleer reviewed from a 9 to a 10 in the last 6 months and it had 2 fisheyes, albeit not eye sores and showing as small red circles in a black background.

I probably should have been more articulate. PSA allows for a minor printing defect in a PSA 10 assuming it doesn't take away from the overall eye appeal of the card. So it really boils down to the grader on that day and what they think. I was thinking of a bad fisheye that was prominent somewhere on the front but, of course, there are very minor fisheyes that can sort of blend in with their surroundings. I was wrong to state that there's a hard and fast rule against them.

This is my NESC sourced PSA 9 Rose with a fisheye. Now that I look at it again, its fairly prominent lol.

Oh yeah, right below “Topps”. I don’t think I would personally purchase a PSA 10 with a defect that noticeable and I doubt personally a card with a fisheye of that magnitude would bump, but there’s only one way to find out!

Edited to say also that left to right centering could keep it from bumping. I’m not in any way “burying” your card as it is nice, just speaking from my grading experiences...
