It is a cast fake. No "real" value as you can find these in a coin dealer's junk box for a few bucks.

  • Thank you for your reply.

No surprise that it's fake. I was almost certain about that for a few reasons. I still have questions though... This is one of the strangest coins I've found yet and there isn't much information about it online.

I read somewhere that replicas of actual coins must say "copy" somewhere on the coin. Indeed, I could only find one coin on Google images that's exactly the same as mine - with one exception: it has "copy" stamped between nova & constellatio in small letters. So I wonder why mine doesn't? Who would replicate such an obscure coin, and why?

Pardon my ignorance... I'm still very much a newb here.

The replicas and copies were only required to be "marked" sometime after 1973. Look up the Hobby Protection Act for the exact date.

As for: "Who would replicate such an obscure coin, and why?" Who can say for sure. Souvenir, advertisement, example of something few could own, etc.
