PayPal question

I’ve noticed the last couple of times I have sent a PayPal payment directly from the site (as opposed to checking out on eBay) that there is no longer a distinction between Goods & Services vs. Friends and Family. It seems the only distinction is you can check a box for some kind of “buyer protection” which then seems to incur a fee for the recipient.
Is that the new norm in everyone else’s experience?

I think there is still no fee if you’re funding with a bank account transfer. What the fee is to the recipient if you select protection, I’m not sure. It was automatically checked when I sent payment to a commercial merchant though.
