PSA Registry spec #
I'm working on using the CSV import facility to load my inventory into the PSA Set Registry. Most of my cards aren't slabbed so I don't have cert #s, but I've noticed that cards in the PSA Set Registry have something called a "Spec #" and I was wondering if anyone knew how this number was created. My 1966 Pagliaroni has a Spec # of "0101660330" - I see the year and card number (033) in there. This also seems to work for my '54 Wilson Franks Slaughter - its Spec # is "0144540170" (its unofficially card '017'). I'd love to be able to load my CSV files up with the right spec #s so I get the link to the PSA inventory for pricing, population, etc.
Best that I can tell is:
Positions 1-2: Sport? Perhaps the alternate sets from a manufacturer? Sometimes this number gets into the high double-digits, so maybe not...
Positions 3-4: Manufacturer (base Topps looks to be '01', Bowman '02', Fleer '03', etc.), but doesn't seem entirely consistent
Positions 5-6: 2-digit year of issue
Positions 7-9: Card number
Position 10: Variation number (for errors, corrections, etc.)
Any thoughts on how this number is put together? Thanks.
Jim

The positions 5-10 you are correct on. You may be right on the first four for sports sets. All Topps Baseball sets seems to start with 0101. In general though not all Topps sets have 01 in the 3-4 positions. For example, all of the many Topps wacky packages sets start with 9245.
