1961 Topps Baseball Question

So I picked up a partial set of 1961 Topps baseball...428 different cards. Most of the stars are missing but there are some sharp looking cards left. As I'm going thru picking out cards that I think could grade 8 or better and cross referencing them to the Auction Prices Realized tool, I come across #242 Hal Smith. I have a nice example and I see the prices in PSA 8 are well over $100. Can anyone explain why? The pop isn't low and I don't see any variations or anything. Just confused. Thanks!

Yeah, I don't get it. Even PSA 7's have been surpassing that price since November of last year.

Maybe Hal is buying them up.
Just a guess here. I know a lot of people like to buy team sets of World Series Champs. The 61 set would picture the key members of the 1960 series winners and Hal Smith had a huge, huge HR in Game 7 of 1960. He's an under the radar folk hero in the 'Burgh.
