Auto Grade Only by PSA

Anyone else think this is deceptive by PSA to have these holders with auto grade only? I had to do a double take to realize this PSA 10 grade was for the auto only. I assume the card is either trimmed or has a flaw dropping the actual card to a PSA 5 or less. It is already selling for more than a PSA 8 where the grade is for the card.

Yes, I don’t like it either. If you aren’t paying attention, you would think it’s the grade of the card because the “auto grade only” is hiding down on the left side. I like the “Gem Mint 10, Auto 10” dual flips a lot better due to the information being on the right side beneath each other.

  • Hello everyone,

This thread just caught my eye and I had to chime in...

People are certainly free to give their opinions… but when it says right on the label that it’s “auto grade only,” I fail to see how this can be described as “deceptive.”

I don't expect everyone to know our exact process, but we do ask that before you start calling anything “deceptive,” you at least take the time to ask us why something is done a certain way. After all, it’s likely that there is a fairly logical explanation for it…

In this instance, please keep in mind that a PSA staff member is not sitting at a computer typing in all the info you see on a label card by card right before it prints out, reorganizing the text depending on how they wish to see it on the label. We have a computer program in place to make this process more automated, and when that is the case, you only have so many options as to where to put text because we need to reserve certain spaces for when there are two grades issued, no grades issued, only one grade issued, etc. Essentially, we have to account for many possible scenarios and that limits the location of where we can place certain text.

Ultimately, we programmed the “AUTO GRADE ONLY” text to go on the last line given all the other possible scenarios we had to account for with this particular service. But the important thing is that it is clearly legible and right on the face of the label where every literate person can detect it. If someone is ready to pay thousands of dollars for an item, it would be advisable to take some time reading the information we provide on the label. And simply because it’s not exactly where you would prefer it does not make this “deceptive.”
