Safe Suggestions

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to purchase a home safe to protect my cards. Mostly, from theft, but possible fire as well.
Does anyone have affordable recommendations?
I’d like to keep the cost around/below $1000.

Thank you for your help.

I am buying one soon--but gonna go for a really good one. GardAll safe--just about 6 feet tall and about 3 wide

the one listed above looks like it can be lifted and carried away. You will not lift the GardAll. Cost about $2500 plus the rigger to bring it in your home. Before you say that is too expensive--figure out how much your collection is worth that you are keeping in there

Liberty makes a pretty good safe for the money. Whatever you get, it needs to be securely anchored to the ground. Most home safes can be defeated if you can flip them onto their back. Two guys and a six foot pry bar can open most in minutes. I recommend using anchor bolts and securing it to a concrete slab. If possible conceal the safe in a wall or build a false corner post wall around it on a hinge. If it is easily overlooked on a quick once through of the house it is unlikely a thief will even know it is there. This also protects from those causal guests (party guests, installers, maintenance, Jehovah's witnesses) who see a safe in your house and wonder what’s in it and come back later.

For the reason you mention here, this is why a friend of mine has some choice items locked in a hunting gun safe. There are no guns in it at all, but he uses it to lock up other more valuable items since the thought was that other people who see it will just assume it has hunting rifles and ignore it.

The easiest way to lose something is to let people know that you have it and where you keep it.

Whatever you do, keep in mind it doesn't take much for plastic to melt.

    Hi Manny!

I have one of these already. Best purchase I ever made. It's actually a gun safe and it is fire rated.

However I don't expect the fire rating will provide unlimited protection. If there was a fire around the safe it would definitely start getting warmer inside. Eventually I think that the slabs will melt if the temperature gets high enough inside.

One word of advice if you buy this safe. Make sure you have at least FIVE people to move it into your house, especially if you plan to take it up or down a level (and I say this from experience). This is a very heavy unit.

But be sure the five people have no idea what they are carrying. :p

Home invasion, criminals find your safe, beat you or your family until you open safe. Would not wish this on my worst enemy but it has happened .

Safe Deposit box, or boxes if needed.

    All The Best !
