What's the most expensive pack you ever opened

I opened a 1978 Topps baseball box and of course all the star cards were horrible (not worth grading). I did send in a couple of commons that looked good and one PSA 10 sold for $300. I was emailed by the winner asking if I had more of that player (forgot his name) because it was his father in law.

1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A for $800.
Every card had a flattened corner.
Salvage value was probably $200.
The card casino has many different games, and opening the super-expensive packs is not one I have convinced myself to play, compared with other options in the hobby

1986 Fleer psa 9 pack. Was mad that gum had sliced it up so I opened it. $550 several years ago. Got the checklist, Kareem, Worthy sequence. After grading still lost about $50
I ripped a couple boxes worth of ‘86 Fleer basketball. Of course, this was in 1986, so it really wasn’t a big deal.
Try this one.... a number of years ago( I want to forget), I purchased an unopened GAI 8 1960 topps vending box ($7500.00 & juice) ( 1st series) and proceeded to open it like a dope and what I got was a mess... 90% of the cards were off center or miscut....brutal... lost most of what invested. I have other worse stories which I won't get into....it's too painful. chaz
1975 mini baseball pack...got a nolan ryan which graded a PSA 8....im quitting while im ahead
..tho i have few 1967 and 1971 (high graded) packs which are oh so tempting.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
We/I opened some 79T at 30 bucks a pack at the National last year - I think I opened 5 and don't think I hit anything exciting.

Opened a series one 1957 topps baseball cello pack. A good many stars in series one but of course none in my pack. I have opened several '58, '59 and '60 topps football cello packs. Opened a '61 fleer basketball pack and got a Robertson IA but it was o/c.

2004 Leaf Limited football. Got a Larry Fitzgerald low #'ed rookie. Didn't make my money back but did OK.
Upper Deck Exquisite Collection. The first season they did it, I forget what year as I'm half asleep. My autograph was Reggie Miller, who I generally can't stand, (Knicks fan) and a single color patch of Steve Nash, who I consider the most overrated player ever. I actually liked the packaging more than the cards themselves and I keep the box in my room as a subtle reminder not to spend upwards of $500 on a box again. I still have the cards, of course, but I could not tell you which box they are in. Someday I'll finish scanning my entire collection and get everything sorted back into sets rather than vaguely by person, but I still have about 25,000 to go. A few years worth of work,not even counting new additions.
1972 Topps wax pack. About 3 years ago. All would probably grade out at 7-8, but nothing to get excited about. It was still really fun to open.

Opened up 36 packs of 1972 football high series from Fritsch about 10 years ago. Got many graded PSA 9 and PSA 10. SO much fun opening it, and broke even in the end being that the box cost about six grand.
Opened 36 packs of 1973 and 1974 opc baseball many years ago too. The 1973 more then paid off because of two nice Schmidt's. The 1974's did not, as centering was all over the place.
Opened 7 packs of 1971 opeechee baseball years ago from Mark Murphy. Paid off being that I got a PSA 8 Hank Aaron out of it.
1969 Topps Basketball wax pack. Got a video of it floating around here somewhere. Nice cards that I got graded but not the big boy. Don Nelson was the best pull. Lots of fun though--ripped it with my daughters. Right Anthony?
I just opened 10 boxes of '89 Donruss where I only got cards from 2 sheets and they weren't good sheets. I paid for that with my soul.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
I opened about 20 packs of 1975 Topps minis around 5 years ago. Got a Ryan that graded at 8.5 and a great head start to a really sharp set which is now complete.

In 1983 or 1984 I gave a friend $3.50 (I think) who was going to the card store to get me a 1979 pack. Came back with a bunch of minty 1979 commons saying that she couldn't resist opening the pack. I don't think I ever opened (by myself) a pack that wasn't current.
Opened 5-6 packs last year of 75 minis with most cards being typical mint corners and OC. Did nail a Rose which graded PSA 9, have a few more to send in to get graded. Pulled a Brett which might be a 9oc plus a few other HOFers. Years ago I opened vending boxes of 1974, 1975, and 1976 and got the typical OC and MC cards but was fun to open.
I opened the 1972 Topps BB wax packs and the 1986 Fleer BKB wax packs we broke in 2012. Pulled a Rose (PSA 8.5), Ryan (PSA 7) and a Jordan RC (PSA 8) in that break.
I've also opened several 1971 rack packs, with the best pulls being a 1971 Blyleven RC (PSA 8) and a 1971 Niekro (PSA 8.5).
And of course I have ripped 1970 series 2 and series 6 cellos, which I picked based on my understanding of the collation. Managed to pull a Munson RC (PSA 8) and a Mays (PSA 8) from those.

I'll do it one better (or 2 grades worse if you want to get technical = PSA 4 chaz)....or how about PSA 6 MC chaz ....take your pick!
I've opened '60, '69 and '71 baseball cello packs. I've also opened wax packs from 1972 on up and a 1971 rack pack. I got a PSA 8 Kaat RC in the '60 cello (opened in the late 90s) and a PSA 8 Pete Rose from the '71 rack pack. I pulled a bunch of good cards from the 70s wax packs but I can't recall what I pulled from them vs what I pulled from high grade sets. The '69 and '71 cello packs didn't yield anything noteworthy other than an O/C '71 Stargell.
Opened a pack of 75 minis yesterday. All off center except a Gary Carter rookie which was centered nicely, only problem was a 43 year old piece of gum melted to the card.
Although I've never opened a pack that I paid more than about $500 for, I've opened many of those packs years after I bought them when they were worth a but more! My guess is a '58 football cello from a few months ago. That is at least until this December rolls around
